Custodial - Colby, WI

The Sanitation Custodian is responsible for maintaining cleanliness, sanitation, and safety throughout the facility in compliance with company policies, food safety standards, and regulatory requirements. This position performs routine cleaning and sanitation tasks in production, warehouse, storage, and common areas while supporting a safe, clean, and organized work environment.

General Requirements

  • Work cooperatively in a team environment and follow directions from supervisors and management.
  • Follow company attendance, punctuality, and workplace conduct policies. Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift.
  • Occasionally lift and / or carry up to 55 pounds individually or up to 100 pounds with assistance.
  • Frequently bend, squat, twist, kneel, climb stairs, and reach overhead during the workday.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 55 pounds independently and up to 100 pounds with assistance.
  • Ability to push, pull, and move sanitation equipment, garbage totes, and waste containers safely.
  • Ability to work in warm, cold, refrigerated, and freezer environments as needed.
  • Ability to operate sanitation equipment and perform general custodial and labor duties.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area at all times
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and complete assigned tasks independently.

Quality Control Requirements

  • Follow all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) procedures, and Safe Quality Food (SQF) standards
  • Maintain proper personal hygiene and wear appropriate work apparel and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Ensure all assigned sanitation and cleaning tasks are completed thoroughly and according to company standards.
  • Follow sanitation maps and detailed cleaning schedules for assigned warehouse areas.
  • Properly clean and sanitize warehouse areas, equipment, racking, forklifts, pallet jacks, and sanitation tools.
  • Remove trash, leftover ingredients, film, cardboard, and packaging materials from production areas prior to sanitation activities.
  • Weigh garbage from production lines and accurately record weights electronically.
  • Sweep and clean open racking and storage locations regularly.
  • Sweep the warehouse daily and operate floor scrubbers to maintain clean and safe floors.
  • Load cardboard balers, tie off completed bales, and place finished bales into designated trailers or storage areas.
  • Cut down and dispose of dirty or damaged garbage totes as needed.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of sanitation carts, janitorial closets, and cleaning supplies.
  • Properly handle, use, and store sanitation chemicals according to company procedures.
  • Complete sanitation logs, cleaning schedules, and required documentation accurately and on time.
  • Report food safety concerns, suspicious activity, or sanitation issues immediately to management.

Note: Required to report food safety problems or concerns immediately to a person with authority to initiate action as indicated on the organizational chart.

Safety Requirements

  • Follow all OSHA regulations and company safety policies applicable to assigned duties.
  • Practice proper lifting, bending, pushing, and pulling techniques to prevent injury.
  • Maintain awareness of forklift traffic, pallets, cords, equipment movement, and other workplace hazards.
  • Wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times.
  • Operate sanitation equipment, forklifts, pallet jacks, and machinery safely and only when properly trained or certified.
  • Never operate equipment without proper authorization or training.
  • Maintain machine guards and safety devices while working around equipment.
  • Follow lockout/tagout procedures and chemical handling guidelines where applicable.
  • Respond promptly to spills, sanitation concerns, and unsafe conditions.
  • Attend all required safety, sanitation, and chemical handling training sessions.

Education/Certifications

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Previous sanitation, custodial, janitorial, warehouse cleaning, or food manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Forklift experience or certification is a plus.

Job Responsibilities

  • Clean and sanitize warehouse areas, storage locations, floors, walls, ceilings, tools, equipment, and racking according to company sanitation procedures.
  • Follow all Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOPs) and Master Cleaning Schedules (MCS).
  • Sweep and maintain cleanliness of the entire warehouse daily.
  • Operate floor scrubbers and other sanitation equipment to maintain clean and safe floors daily.
  • Follow sanitation maps and assigned detailed cleaning schedules to ensure all designated areas are cleaned regularly.
  • Remove trash, waste materials, leftover ingredients, film, cardboard, and packaging materials from production areas and transport materials to designated disposal or storage locations.
  • Weigh garbage removed from production lines and record weights electronically.
  • Load cardboard balers, tie off completed bales, and move finished bales to designated trailers or storage areas.
  • Cut down and dispose of damaged or dirty garbage totes as needed.
  • Clean and sanitize forklifts, pallet jacks, sanitation carts, and other material handling equipment.
  • Sweep out and clean open warehouse racking and storage locations regularly.
  • Wipe down warehouse racking, shelving, and storage structures to maintain sanitation standards.
  • Remove all trash from production rooms and transport it to designated waste and recycling areas using pallet jacks or forklifts when certified.
  • Remove ingredients and packaging materials from production rooms and place them in designated staging or storage locations before sanitation activities begin.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of sanitation tools, supplies, and work areas.
  • Properly handle, use, and store cleaning chemicals in accordance with company policies and safety procedures.
  • Complete sanitation paperwork, cleaning logs, inspection forms, and required documentation accurately and on time.
  • Attend required sanitation, food safety, and chemical safety training sessions.
  • Assist with general housekeeping and custodial duties throughout the facility.
  • Perform additional sanitation, custodial, and general labor duties as assigned by management.

Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Hourly and salaried non-exempt employees will also be paid overtime pay when working qualifying overtime hours.

If hired, employees will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base pay (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
