Summary

Under the general direction of the Ambulatory Surgery Manager, coordinates and delivers care to patients of all ages with a focus on gastroenterology. Assists personnel in the admission, perioperative care and discharge of patients, specializing in gastroenterology. Utilizes the nursing process to develop a plan of nursing care. The RN assumes responsibility for assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating direct and indirect nursing care, identifying outcomes for patients in the Perioperative setting.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs all aspects in job description of Endoscopy Staff Nurse
  • Oversees daily clinical operations, ensuring the delivery of the highest levels of clinical quality and customer service to peri-operative patients in the most cost-effective manner.
  • Communicates throughout the day with physicians and staff to ensure optimal coordination in the delivery of medical services.
  • Assists Ambulatory Surgery Manager with interviews and training.
  • Ensures adequate daily staffing.
  • Implements operational changes as directed by Ambulatory Surgery Manager.
  • Ensures regulatory compliance and survey readiness.
  • Coordinates with the Ambulatory Surgery Manager and Surgical Services Business Manager to ensure accurate and complete billing and charge capture.
  • Resolves customer complaints or forwards them to the Ambulatory Surgery Manager as appropriate.
  • Serves as the site specialist for all computer software used to manage department operations.
  • Educates staff on optimal use of the software and troubleshoots issues, coordinating with IT staff as needed.
  • Coordinates ordering of medical supplies.
  • Monitors clinic staffing and expenditures for budgetary compliance and provides justification to the Ambulatory Surgery Manager regarding necessary staff overtime or unbudgeted expenditures.
  • Attends Perioperative meetings as alternate for Ambulatory Surgery Manager.
  • Participates in data collection and department quality improvement programs.
  • Monitors and maintains all department records and documentation.
  • Participates in updating policies and procedures to accurately reflect department workflow
  • Acts as a resource and serves as a mentor for other nurses.
  • Demonstrates System Values in performance and behavior.
  • Complies with System policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as may be assigned.

Minimum Education/Experience

Certificate of completion from college or vocational school from a National League of Nursing (NLN), Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) or equivalent accredited school of nursing. The nurse shall have completed a nursing education program that included clinical experiences with actual patients under the supervision of qualified faculty.

1-2 years relevant experience

Required Licenses/Certifications

California Registered Nurse (RN)

  • Upon hire

Nevada Registered Nurse (RN)

  • Upon hire

BLS/ACLS/PALS: Employee will be enrolled in the Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI) Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Life Support (ALS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Entry or Prep Curriculum (depending on their previous BLS, ACLS, and/or PALS certification).

Other Experience/Qualifications

Required:

  • Leadership ability
  • Ability to communicate well with others
  • Previous Perioperative Experience
  • Previous PACU, ICU, or ER experience
  • Prior work as a Charge Nurse
  • Prior experience in coordinating staff schedules and daily assignments
  • Prior involvement in performance improvement projects

Preferred:

  • Proficiency with Electronic Health Records (EHR)/EPIC experience preferred.
