Mai te hiku ki te taurapa, whitikina e te rā
From the tail of the fish to the stern of the waka, shines the sun
Drawn from our company waiata, this kīanga reflects our journey across Aotearoa — one waka, powered by the natural forces that sustain us. From one end of the motu to the other, Meridian generates renewable energy from the winds of Tāwhirimātea, the waters of Tangaroa, and the warmth of Tama-nui-te-rā. Meridian is Aotearoa’s largest renewable electricity producer.
Together, our two brands, Meridian and Powershop retail electricity to more than 400,000 homes, businesses and farms across New Zealand. Now that’s a pretty impressive combo!
Mō te tūranga | About the role
This is a brilliant opportunity to bring your passion for Te Ao Māori and te reo Māori into a role where you can make a real difference. You’ll help Meridian continue to grow as a Te Tiriti o Waitangi-honouring organisation, supporting work that builds cultural understanding, lifts confidence in te reo Māori, and embeds tikanga in ways that feel practical, authentic and lasting. Working alongside our Kaihautū Māori and the People Team, you’ll help bring Ki Te Hoe o Te Waka o Te Hiringa Kōmata, our company Te Ao Māori strategy, to life through learning, relationships, events and everyday moments that shape how our people connect, grow and work together. From supporting mihi whakatau and poroporoaki to helping coordinate Matariki, Te Wiki o te Reo Māori and other learning experiences, you’ll play a hands-on role in creating meaningful opportunities for our people to learn and participate. This role would suit someone early in their career who is strong in Te Ao Māori and te reo Māori, brings energy, drive and curiosity, and is excited to grow into the wider culture and capability space over time.
