Expected Hiring Salary: .4FTE $20,000

Working Schedule: 204 days

General Definition of Work:

Performs work supporting the American Indian Program in the White Bear Lake Area School District. The positons will assist and support in the sharing of American Indian language and cultural knowledge to students in grades K-12.

Essential Functions

American Indian Education Program Responsibilities

  1. This position will execute the American Indian Education Plan under the direction of the Director of Equity and Engagement.
  2. This position will work with the American Indian Coordinator and Parent Advisory Committee in the development of programming that direclty impacts the learning expereince of American Indian Children in WBLAS.
  3. This position will be responsible for helping the district identify American Indian students within the system and increase the American Indian student enrollment.
  4. Partners with principals to develop a positive building climate that leads to educational equity and student achievement for all students.
  5. Facilitates student's empowerment, social, racial, academic, and identity development groups.
  6. Offers guidance and collaboration to staff to provide supplemental culturally relevant experiential learning opportunities in and out of the classroom.
  7. Implements the goals and objectives of the Achievement and Integration Plan, District Strategic Plan, and the district Equity Action Plan.
  8. This position will execute the American Indian Education Plan under the direction of the Director of Equity and Engagement and American Indian Education Coordinator in partnership with the American Indian Parent Advisory Committee. This position will be responsible for helping the district identify American Indian students within the system and increase the American Indian student enrollment.
  9. This position will help create system-wide educational experiences for American Indian students.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Some knowledge of district policies, manuals, programs, processes and procedures; some knowledge of standard office practices, procedures and equipment; some knowledge of business English, spelling and arithmetic; knowledge of native cultures and traditions; some knowledge of federal program rules, policies, and procedures; the ability to build strong community partnerships; some skill operating standard office equipment, personal computer and applicable hardware and software; some skill performing data entry on web-based forms; ability to compute rates, ratios and percentages; ability to make arithmetic computations using whole numbers, fractions and decimals; ability to create and maintain files, records, reports and databases in a timely and effective manner both electronically and on paper; ability to make arithmetic computations using whole numbers, fractions and decimals; ability to compute rates, ratios and percentages; ability to change and influence school climate and culture; ability to facilitate groups and peer meetings; ability to communicate effectively both orally and in written formats; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with officials, teachers, employees students, similar professionals, and the general public.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Physical Requirements:

This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 10 pounds of force; work frequently sitting and occasionally requires standing, walking, using hands to finger, handle or feel, reaching with hands and arms, lifting and repetitive motions; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operating machines and observing general surroundings and activities; work has no exposure to environmental conditions; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
