Consumer Services Charter: As a Culinary Worker, you are accountable to the Consumer Services Team Charter and is aligned with the purpose, vision and values and holds themselves and each other accountable to it.

Primary Purpose: As a Culinary Worker, you will support the Culinary Services team as needed. You will be required to provide an excellent customer service to our students and the school community. Additionally, you will perform according to the university and brand standards, and this includes maintaining cleanliness, prioritizing food safety, and service standards. The Culinary Worker is expected to be a great team player and should have good communication skills. The Culinary Worker will be required to work in one or more of our retail locations consisting of 12 branded and non-branded locations.

Nature of Work: The Culinary Worker may be required to lift items up to 30 lbs. This role can be physically demanding and may require you to stand for long hours and do repetitive tasks. As a Culinary Worker, you will be reporting to the Culinary Team Lead and the Culinary Retail Management team. In addition to this, part of your job is to ensure that franchise and university standards including food safety, product preparation, cleanliness, sanitation, and inventory control will be maintained.

The incumbent is expected to have good communication skills as the job requires you to communicate with students, staff, faculty, and visitors. Working with a diverse team, you are required to always communicate in English. You are also expected to work effectively with others.

Incumbent may be required to work nights, weekends or stat holidays and schedule is subject to change depending on business demands. Lastly, this position has the potential of being moved to other franchise or non-franchise locations, depending on the operation needs.

Typical Duties/Accountabilities

  1. Communicates well with your Team Lead and team members to complete tasks and support the whole team.
  2. Can resolve conflicts in the workplace and maintain harmony among coworkers.
  3. Can handle customer complaints and deals with it in a professional manner.
  4. Communicates issues according to importance or urgency.
  5. Can adjust easily to changing conditions and successfully navigate uncertainties and challenges in the workplace.
  6. Can follow instructions from immediate supervisor and managers.
  7. Have the willingness to cooperate with the supervisor’s instructions.
  8. Have the willingness to work independently, when required. Have the initiative to accomplish tasks.
  9. Treats all confidential information and materials in a confidential manner.
  10. Complies with all relevant legislation, regulations, policies, procedures, and standards.
  11. Have the skills to make accurate and efficient processing of customer payments. Works with point-of-sale terminal.
  12. Prepare some food, as required. Performs some merchandising, cleaning, stocking. Maintain service areas, coolers, storerooms in a clean and orderly way.
  13. Ensure that equipment is regularly checked, and the equipment is properly operated and maintained, and cleaned.
  14. Takes direction from the Retail Culinary Services management team about new initiatives and solving minor issues.

Qualifications

Education: The incumbent requires a Grade 12 and a Food Safe Certificate. A minimum two years of experience working in a food service retail setting is an asset, but not required.

Experience: Knowledge and understanding of Branded Partners is an asset, but not required (our brand includes Tim Hortons, Starbucks, Subway, and Booster Juice).
