Job Description

Functions under the direction of the Diagnostic Team Leader and the Assistant Manager of Radiology. Operates general radiologic and CT Scan imaging equipment performing a variety of procedures on pediatric inpatients and outpatients, applying prescribed ionizing radiation for the sole purpose of producing diagnostic quality images under the supervision of a physician.

  • Maintains the appropriate skills related to patient care and imaging of neonatal and pediatric patients. Has the ability to access imaging orders and requests for completeness and accuracy. Involves patient/parent/and caregiver in care and procedure. Introduces oneself and role responsibility. Explains procedure thoroughly to patient and or parent before performing the procedure. Allows time for and encourages questions.
  • Effectively utilizes available resources and other members of the department and healthcare team to assure timeliness and accuracy of performing requested exam. Follows through with notification of appropriate parties of any variations and or changes of requested exam. Provides support to other sub-sections of the department as needed.
  • Performs diagnostic and CT exams on a daily basis for all areas of the organization and requesting Physicians. These areas include ED, OR, Clinics, inpatient units and the department as a whole. May be called upon to provide coverage in off site locations as well. Ensures all images are of excellent diagnostic quality and include appropriate shielding, side markers, and coning and exposure factors.
  • Teaches and mentors new technologists, student technologists and Radiology Residents appropriate radiologic technology skills. Evaluates their knowledge / skill levels and communicates it to the department and program coordinators. Has the knowledge and skills to efficiently operate CR, RIS, PACs, CD burner and Nighthawk systems. Assures accurate physician, patient and exam data transfer between department and hospital systems, completion and scanning of Med Rec., Physician request, Radman request form and any other pertinent data into department RIS. Reports all errors to proper personnel in a timely manner. Knowledgeable of and adheres to all hospital and department policies, procedures

    and protocols
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Education and/or Experience Required:

  • Experience Required: Successful completion of an accredited Diagnostic Radiologic Technology program.

    Board eligibility required and must follow ARRT standards of board eligibility and subsequent licensing by the State of Connecticut.
  • Computed Tomography board certification within one year of employment.

Education and/or Experience Preferred:

  • Experience Preferred: Previous pediatric experience preferred.

License and/or Certification Required:

  • Certified as a Registered Technologist R.T., [ARRT]
  • Current State of Connecticut Radiographer License required.
  • Computer Tomography board certification.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) / CPR certification.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills. Competency in caring for patients treated at Connecticut Children’s regardless of age, disability, gender and ethnicity.
