Job Description

Performs CT examinations including special procedure examinations under the direction of the supervisor and CT Section Head.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education:

  1. High School graduate or equivalent.
  2. Graduate of an approved two year radiologic training program.

Experience:

  1. Experience on GE Systems is preferred.
  2. Two years’ work experience in CT is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  1. Must have the ability to function as a team member and the ability to work cooperatively and communicate effectively with patients, staff members and physicians.

License/Certification/Registration:

  1. Registered with the ARRT. Meets continuing education requirements set forth by the ARRT.
  2. Registered in CT meeting continuing education requirements.
  3. Meets the American Heart Association’s standards for Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) and renews BLS every two years.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Receives direct supervision from the Supervisor, Imaging Services and CT Section Head.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Performs daily operational and technical activities:
    • Greets each patient in a pleasant manner and provides excellent customer service to the patients, families and other staff members they come in contact with.
    • Evaluates request for correctness of examinations ordered - checks diagnosis, physician order, lab results and patient identification prior to exam. Obtains prior and current patient history; documents pertinent information in PACS and Meditech.
    • Prepares and positions patients for examinations.
    • Determines best study and technique using ALARA guidelines and established protocols.
    • Takes correct images for examination.
    • Assists the Radiologist during special procedure examinations.
    • Demonstrates IV competency, performs blood draws and point of care lab testing as needed.
    • Takes call as needed.
    • Prepares machines before use.
    • Prepares barium and other contrast media’s for use; injects contrast media as needed. Verifies and provides proper prep for outpatients.
    • Performs other related technical patient care duties as assigned.
    • Maintains adequate inventory for work area.
    • Keeps work area clean and orderly.
    • Maintains yearly Image Gently/Image Wisely pledges.
    • Performs shut down procedure of unit as needed.
  • Assists with documentation management, clerical duties and patient transportation.
    • Burns CD’s when needed.
    • Escorts patients throughout department and/or hospital.
    • Assists in office functions as needed.
    • Assists with scheduling of patients when requested by centralized scheduling.

NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Performs related and miscellaneous duties as assigned.
