Job Description

GENERAL SUMMARY

The CT Technologist produces computerized tomographic Radiographs of designated anatomical areas, as requested, in order to provide the radiologists and/or physicians with diagnostic information. The CT Technologist provides quality patient care in relation to the patient's prescribed diagnosis and treatment needs.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION/COMPETENCIES

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Collaborates on patient medical issues with the physician to determine protocol and procedure.
  • Completes all CT exams and procedures, obtaining optimal images for physician review according to policy and protocol.
  • Obtains and records patient identification, medical history, or test results.
  • Performs venous punctures using universal precautions while administering contrast media.
  • Monitors patient condition continually and reports/responds to changes in status as appropriate.
  • Performs medical care as needed, such as administering oxygen, taking vital signs and giving emergency treatments.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality.
  • Practices established safety guidelines and use CT safety tools and techniques.
  • Maintains, cleans and reports any issues with CT equipment.
  • Performs other position related duties as assigned.
  • Employees shall adhere to high standards of ethical conduct and will comply with and assist in complying with all applicable laws and regulations. This will include and not be limited to following the Solaris Health Code of Conduct and all Solaris Health and Affiliated Practice policies and procedures; maintaining the confidentiality of patients' protected health information in compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA); immediately reporting any suspected concerns and/or violations to a supervisor and/or the Compliance Department; and the timely completion the Annual Compliance Training.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSURES OR REGISTRY REQUIREMENTS

  • Radiologic Technologist License and certification as required by state.
  • ARRT Certification in Radiography and CT as required by state.
  • BLS certification required.

KNOWLEDGE | SKILLS | ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of routine to complex CT procedures and protocols.
  • Knowledge of ACR accreditation
  • Skill in operation of CT equipment as well as applicable ancillary equipment.
  • Ability to work independently and multitask.
  • Ability to provide documentation accurately and concisely.
  • Demonstrates understanding of human cross-sectional anatomy, physiology, pathology, radiopharmacology, and medical terminology.
  • Physical ability to assist patients for transfer from stretcher, wheelchair or in an emergency situation.
  • Knowledge of computer applications, including information and billing systems, keyboard input, digital archiving, and retrieving of data. Knowledge in healthcare systems operations such as EMR.
  • Critical thinking skills and ability to make decisive judgment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to build relationships with patients and display empathy and compassion to patients.
  • Complies with HIPAA regulations for patient confidentiality.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Graduate of Accredited school of Radiologic Technology.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • CT experience strongly preferred; new grads considered.

REQUIRED TRAVEL

  • May be required to travel between facilities.
