The CT Scan/Radiologic Technologist performs radiographic and CT procedures to assist physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of patients in accordance with established Hospital policies and procedures and all regulatory agencies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Utilizes the computerized tomography (CT) scanner to produce cross-section images of patients’ internal organs and tissues to assist the radiologist in the patient’s diagnosis.
  • Performs diagnostic CT studies as ordered by a Licensed Independent Practitioner by following established protocols. They must be able to accurately interpret a physician’s scanning instructions, administer contrast materials, prepare and operate the CT scan equipment and position the patient to capture the appropriate images.
  • Enters data, such as type of scan requested, slice thickness, scan time, and other technical information into the computer, using knowledge of radiologic technology and computed tomography.
  • Practices radiation safety through appropriate use of correct field of view and adheres to radiation safety standards in order to protect patient and staff and to comply with regulatory agencies and requirements.
  • Explains procedures to patient to reduce anxiety and to obtain patient cooperation.
  • Maintains CT equipment in good operating order. Cleans and disinfects equipment and area after each use. Maintains work area in an orderly manner. Reports any hazardous conditions or equipment breakdowns to director. Calls for repairs on equipment when instructed to do so.
  • Routinely prepares CT scans for interpretation by the radiologist to include correct identification and processing. Set up images properly in PACs system where applicable.
  • Records all charges and other relevant information using hospital tracking system.
  • On-call responsibilities- takes call as necessary to ensure that radiology services are available whenever the department is closed.

Requirements:

*Graduate of accredited school of Radiology and approved CT program with 3-6 months of CT Scan experience and/or training required

*American Registry of Radiology Technologist (ARRT) Registration and Current CT Radiographer's license required

*CT Certification preferred or must obtain within six (6) months, if hired
