The CSSD assistant is responsible for the cleaning, disinfecting, packing, wrapping, assembling, sterilizing, and labelling of instruments, trays and applicable equipment by using appropriate methods and techniques to deliver safe, competent and person – centred quality dental and clinical care as set out by the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA).

The CSSD assistant is responsible for the cleaning, disinfecting, packing, wrapping, assembling, sterilizing, and labelling of instruments, trays and applicable equipment by using appropriate methods and techniques to deliver safe, competent and person – centred quality dental and clinical care as set out by the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA).

KEY WORK OURPUT AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
Execution of procedures

  • Fold and Pack linen in the correct manner for sterilization.
  • Wash and care for instruments according to the correct procedure.
  • Pack instrument sets and loose articles in the prescribed manner for sterilization.
  • Ensure that all required instruments for procedures are sterile and ready for utilization.
  • Ensure correct usage and handling of equipment
  • Ensure stock Control and Cost containment
  • Set and maintain standards
  • Complete medico-legal applications
  • Knowledge of policies and procedures
  • Comply to IPC Policies and Procedures
  • Manage maintenance and repairing of auto claves
  • Perform Bowie Dick Test and A-Test and record keeping proof of evidence.
  • Manage instrument repairs
  • Manage loan instruments and equipment
  • Manage the instrument lists
  • Ensure stock control and management of consumables

Self - Management and Development

  • Identify self- development needs in terms of job requirements and career progression and bring these to the attention of the immediate manager
  • Formulate action steps to close the gap between the ideal and actual state of competence
  • Pursue self - development in one or both of the following areas:
  • Formal Studies
  • Informal / self - studies
  • Share knowledge with relevant team members.
  • Follow agreed upon (authorised) action steps until desired competence is achieved
  • Be punctual and behave appropriately to the business environment

Customer satisfaction

  • Ongoing Customers satisfaction according to set standards
  • Be a model of excellent customer service, ensuring that all customers experience an excellent and satisfactory interaction at all time

SKILLS PROFILE

EDUCATION

  • Grade 12 or equivalent NQF level 4 qualification

WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Ability to work well under pressure and to maintain effectiveness during changing conditions
  • Dental/Hospital Experience ( advantageous )
  • The ability to display a good customer-focus by developing and sustaining productive customer relationships
  • The ability to prioritize by managing time and resources to ensure that work is completed effectively and timeously
  • Ability to produce work of a high quality standard by accurately checking processes and tasks
  • The ability to maintain a satisfactory level of technical and professional skill or knowledge by keeping abreast of current development and trends in the medical related field impacting on the post
  • The ability to set high standards of performance for self and others, and assuming the overall responsibility and accountability for the successful completions of assignments or tasks
  • The ability to maintain stable performance under pressure by handling stress in an acceptable way to personnel and the organisation
  • Available to work flexible hours if and when required

KNOWLEDGE
