Job Description

The opportunity

Saab Australia is an industry participant in the Combat Systems Integration – Integrated Project Team (CSI-IPT) Collaboration Agreement (CSI-IPT CCA). The CSI-IPT CCA forms a collaborative enterprise organisation to execute scopes of work across Hobart Class Destroyer (SEA4000 Phase 6 and other related Destroyer Capability Enhancement (DCE) upgrades) and the Hunter Class Frigates (HCFs - SEA5000 Phase 1). This will see independently executed programs such as SEA4000 Phase 6 and SEA5000 Phase 1 brought under one umbrella enterprise organisation, the CSI-IPT.

The CSI-IPT will be built up with personnel from three industry participants and the Commonwealth of Australia (CoA) to form a collaborative team working across multiple programs to leverage synergies between platforms.

The role

As a CSI-IPT HCF Systems Engineer within the CSI-IPT HCF team, you will contribute to the execution of HCF Combat System Segment Specification (CSSS) development activities, including the development of the HCF CSSS, VCRM and associated documentation. You will participate in a range of systems engineering activities and work with a diverse range of stakeholders in the CSI-IPT, Maritime Integrated Warfare Systems (MIWS) and external partners. In doing so, you will have opportunities to grow your systems engineering and requirements engineering capabilities in a multi-party collaborative environment.

Working under the direction of the HCF CSSS Lead, the successful candidate will help:

  • Review and modify CSSS requirements
  • Conduct requirement tracing to parent specifications and requirement allocations to products and product specifications
  • Evolve the CSSS VCRM and traceability matrices
  • The CSSS Requirements Review
  • Plan verification activities across both Whole of Ship Combat System requirements and the CSSS
  • Support the development of the HCF CSSS, VCRM and traceability matrices.

Flexible work arrangements such as hybrid work from home / office and a 9-day fortnight will be considered for this role.

About you

Your skills and experience will include:

  • A tertiary qualification in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, etc.
  • Requirements management, system architecture, systems integration, and/or verification and validation
  • Sound understanding of systems engineering principles and practices
  • Familiarity with complex systems (e.g. military systems) or related defence technologies (desirable)
  • Familiarity of system engineering in an ASDEFCON context (desirable)
  • Proficiency in using systems engineering software tools and simulation environments (e.g. DOORS, Cameo Systems Modeler)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving
  • Excellent communication and teamwork
  • Communicating technical information in both written and verbal forms
  • Adapting to fast-paced and dynamic work environments
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and methodologies.
