0This position supports Mercy's philosophy of patient centered care by pre-cleaning, cleaning, assembling, packaging and reprocessing of reusable medical devices. The Central Sterile Aide must have high integrity, the ability to work in a fast-paced, ever-changing area, and the willingness to support/work in many areas of the organization.

Job Duties/Essential Functions

  • Job Duties
    • Transports, cleans, and packages reusable medical devices (e.g. scopes, surgical instruments, probes, containers).
    • Understands reprocessing concepts and workflow.
    • Transports both dirty and clean instruments to/from end user areas.
    • Packages instruments.
    • Cleans reusable instrumentation.
    • Completes initial and annual competencies as required by the department.
    • Attends mandatory staff meetings and in-services.
    • Assists vendors with loaner trays as necessary.
    • Provides coverage across all Mercy sites of care as required by the department.
    • General understanding of processes and department workflow.
    • Learns/Utilizes wrapping methods and packaging processes for instrumentation.
    • Follows policy and procedures set forth by the department and organization.
  • Follows Mercy's safety guidelines, carries out job-specific safety duties and responsibilities, and promptly reports any unsafe conditions, situations, incidents and injuries.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Must read, write, speak, and comprehend English fluently.
  • Perform simple math.
  • Able to work with frequent interruptions and handle multiple tasks.
  • Have excellent customer service skills and be a team player.

Professional Experience

  • Prefer candidate with professional work experience.
  • Medical background preferred.

Education

  • High School Diploma or equivalent strongly preferred.
