Job Description

Operates, calibrates, installs, programs, repairs, designs, and fabricates instrumentation and data acquisition systems.

Designs, develops, and documents new data acquisition systems; serves as expert in hardware and software systems; coordinates and sets up tests;

troubleshoots problems.

Schedules and prioritizes projects in order to produce optimal results; schedules work by interfacing with customers both internal and external as well as support

groups within the company.

Specifies, purchases, and maintains equipment; fabricates prototypes; designs and executes field tests.

Uses a number of general tools including but not limited to digital multimeter, soldering iron, function generator, and frequency generator.

Reads and interprets electrical wiring diagrams.

Communicates (oral and written) technical information to a diverse customer base.

Participates in the maintenance of quality procedures.

Develops and conducts training programs; provides counseling, mentoring, and coaching.

Serves as company representatives in various capacities to customers, suppliers, and outside agencies.

Interacts effectively with employees throughout the company.

Demonstrates adaptability and responsiveness to changing work needs and willingness to undertake new tasks as they become evident; initiates, develops,

Leads, and participates in improvement projects.

Manages own work and adjusts work priorities in order to meet the demands; participates in self and team audits and associated

Key Responsibilities:

Supports and troubleshoots engineering test operations/measurement in multiple locations.

Manages schedules and organizes tests and issues; facilitates the prioritization process for testing. Works with engineers to develop measurement techniques; designs more effective measurement methods and data acquisition processes and equipment; develops and executes measurement plans; leads the troubleshooting process; verifies proposed solutions; designs and procures fixtures for special tests; creates software needed for special applications; documents hardware test measurements and test summaries.

Provides support to resolve test issues; leads the test/measurement and issue resolution process; may lead the development and execution of customer/supplier agreements with engineers.

Performs data analysis and documents in Technical Reports; presents test findings.

Provides technical support for customers worldwide.

Understands and applies appropriate Company and department rules and guidelines to work and to systems; participates in the maintenance of quality procedures.

Travels as required by the position.

Performs other miscellaneous duties, as required, to get the job done.

Data Acquisition - Prepares samples, verifies equipment calibration and performs tests according to an approved standard procedure or work instruction in a manner which ensures, and results in, data that can be trusted and delivered to the engineer or customer.

Education, Licenses, Certifications:
High school diploma, GED or equivalent required with Department of Labor Certification OR Position Profile Associates degree from an accredited program in a related field and at least two years of relevant experience OR Bachelors degree in a related field.

Experience:
Department of Labor Certification OR four year experience/education requirement accomplished through either Bachelors degree in related field OR associates degree in related field and at least two years of relevant experience.

Core responsibilities or activities unique to the role

  1. Support on-road testing using CDL
    Utilize a CDL to operate test vehicles in support of on-road validation activities, while working with another engineer to safely execute vehicle test cases for interfaces and features requiring live data, especially as it relates to ADS, ADAS, and Transmission features.
  2. Perform OEM interface and feature testing
    Execute OEM interface and system feature testing, including troubleshooting OEM device compatibility issues as well as Cummins OEM Interface functionality issues, requiring good written and oral communication to relay results to different end customers
  3. Analyze issues and support test/process improvements
    Carry out partially defined and moderately complex test activities with limited guidance; analyze issues using sound logic, distinguish critical from non-critical details, document findings clearly, and identify improvements to processes, tests, equipment, tools, and documentation.

Skill, education, or experience requirements needed for the role

  1. Valid CDL or ability to maintain CDL qualification required to support on-road testing needs.
  2. Experience executing manual test procedures with the ability to follow written procedures, collect data, document results, and provide detailed test reports.
  3. Electrical/electronic troubleshooting capability, including the ability to use general electrical engineering tools such as oscilloscopes, waveform/function/signal generators, power supplies, multimeters, and decade boxes.
  4. Demonstrate issue-analysis and communication skills, including the ability to troubleshoot hardware/software tool issues, analyze moderately complex problems, communicate results clearly, and work self-managed to meet task and project timelines and deliverables.

Skill, education, or experience preferences

  1. Experience with OEM device interfaces, engine control systems, or vehicle electronic systems is preferred but not required.
  2. Project/time management experience on low to moderately complex tasks and projects is preferred, especially experience coordinating test activities, managing work schedules, and contributing to team goals.
