As a Critical Response Dispatcher, a caregiver in this role will support emergency response teams by managing emergency and non-emergency dispatch and communications. The caregiver will triage requests, gather critical patient and incident information and use computer-aided dispatch systems and established protocols to coordinate and deploy the appropriate medical response resources. This position plays an important role in ensuring timely and accurate dispatch of medical response teams at Main Campus, including the Medical Emergency Response Team (MERT), helping ensure the right resources are available when they are needed most.

A caregiver in this position will work rotating 12-hour shifts from 6:30am to 6:30pm and 6:30pm to 6:30am. The rotation will be flexible based on staffing needs, with an anticipated rotation of approximately every four weeks. Caregivers interested in working a consistent night shift may also be considered. Weekend and holiday coverage will be required as part of the schedule.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Receives records, assesses urgency, and response to all requests for transport or patient care.
  • Responsible for answering and handling emergency and non-emergency calls with real-time monitoring of active cases.
  • Communicates and collaborates with teams to maintain status of all teams and resources at all times through multiple tracking systems.
  • Responsible for operation of a computer-aided dispatch system by entering call information and dispatching assigned units to emergency and non-emergency situations.
  • Connects callers with the appropriate consultation or accepting service as needed. Receives patient information for all patients potentially in need of medical services.
  • Utilizes pre-designated algorithms to provide immediate response of emergency and transport resources when emergent response is indicated.
  • Processes code and medical emergency activations received from clinical teams.
  • Works collaboratively with the CCT RN Clinical coordinator.
  • Monitor team status, availability, to support efficient teams deployment.
  • Participate in quality assurance, training, and continue improvement initiatives.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of an accredited Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Emergency Medical Dispatcher (EMD) program.
  • Current certification as EMT or EMD in the state of Ohio (or higher).
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as an EMT or EMD.
  • Experience in a 911 setting or dispatch experience required.

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Computer aided dispatch software experience preferred.
  • Medical terminology proficiency preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit for long periods of time within a confined space.
  • Requires full range of motion, manual and finger dexterity of eye hand coordination.
  • Requires corrected vision and hearing to a normal range.
  • Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment.
