Job Description
Our vision is simple yet powerful: we want to create a place where engineers thrive, taking on exciting projects and using the latest technologies, free from the shackles of legacy solutions.
Thanks to the diverse range of industries we work with, our days are never boring: from world-class apps to AR solutions or even programming robots, we’ve got it all covered. We don’t just write code for our screens; rather, we develop impactful products used by millions every day: let them be large-scale public transport applications, leading fintech platforms, or storage solutions contributing to a greener future.
We are a team of 100+ engineers (Java, JavaScript, Android, iOS, NodeJS and dotnet platforms) and QA engineers with our coding fingers at the ready working on the next big thing. We value openness, modesty, hard work, and simple yet great solutions.
We’re looking for an Engineering Tech Lead for Critical Infrastructure who leads a small group of talented backend engineers taking ownership of how systems actually run in production.
This role sits at the intersection of engineering, infrastructure, and operations - and still part of the wider engineering organization. You’ll act as a technology lead for a group of talented backend engineers and be the L3 owner of critical systems; engineer and deliver them and step in on the hardest problems, while building the foundations that make those problems disappear over time.
This is about full ownership both in development and maintenance: moving from only building systems and giving reactive support to structured, scalable operations.
Your day to day will include:
- Guiding backend developers in designing, developing, and maintaining software applications, while setting technical direction and upholding code quality standards
- Collaborating with the software architect to define and evolve system architecture for enhanced scalability, performance, and security
- Actively engaging in coding, code review, and driving engineering best practices
- Mentoring and coaching team members to promote continuous learning and growth
- Aligning with Project Managers to ensure smooth and predictable delivery
- Staying current with modern Java/Kotlin and backend technologies, and introducing relevant improvements where it makes sense
- Working closely with the Lead Support Manager and act as the L3 technical owner and final escalation point from a technical aspect for complex production incidents in the Continuous Services organisation
- Maintain L3 resourcing, on-call readiness, and technical coverage across supported services
- Drive continuous improvement in incident management, operational practices, and response quality
- Create and maintain operational documentation (runbooks, playbooks, troubleshooting guides, post-incident learnings)
- Identify recurring issues and system gaps, and drive long-term reliability and automation improvements
- Leverage AI-driven tools for monitoring, alerting, and observability to improve system reliability and reduce noise
What makes you thrive here:
- Proficiency in the Java ecosystem (Java 17,21), experience with Kotlin is a strong plus
- Familiarity with backend frameworks such as Spring, Micronaut, or similar technologies
- Clean code mindset, strong OOP/SOLID principles, and pragmatic engineering thinking
- Expertise in Containerization and Kubernetes is a big plus, along with familiarity with at least one major cloud provider (AWS, GCP, or Azure)
- Confident working with SQL or NoSQL databases
- Experience with AI-powered coding tools/agents and curiosity about modern backend trends
- Strong experience with production systems, infrastructure, or platform environments
- Hands-on ownership of reliability, incident handling, and operational excellence (L3 support, on-call, SLOs)
- Ability to build and improve processes by documenting, standardizing, simplifying complexity, and driving long-term solutions instead of quick fixes
- Natural ability to build bridges between operations and delivery, balancing hands-on technical involvement with long-term operational ownership
- Having a people-focused mindset: mentoring others, giving constructive feedback, and enjoying leading and improving a dynamic L3 support organization while fostering innovation and collaboration within the team
- At least an intermediate level of English language skills since our team operates internationally
