JOB SUMMARY

The Critical Environments Director (Electrical Engineering) serves as the ABM Performance Solutions (APS) portfolio-level electrical authority for the client's mission critical data centers. Reporting to the Account Director, this role provides technical leadership across commissioning, turnover, maintenance, change control, incident response, reliability, and electrical infrastructure performance.

As a trusted advisor to both ABM and the client, the Director leverages operational data, engineering expertise, and forensic analysis to optimize maintenance strategies, mitigate risk, improve asset performance, and support the long-term reliability of a growing global portfolio.

This is a senior individual contributor role that leads through technical expertise, influence, and client engagement rather than direct people management. The position will initially support new facility deployments and commissioning efforts before expanding to stabilized operating sites.

Lead the electrical maintenance, engineering, reliability, and operational readiness programs across the client portfolio, ensuring safe, standardized, disruption-free operation of critical power infrastructure. Partner with client design, construction, commissioning, engineering, and operations teams across a growing global portfolio of mission critical facilities to improve reliability, standardization, resiliency, and operational excellence.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Serve as the account senior electrical technical authority and establish portfolio standards for operation, maintenance, reliability, safety, and risk management.
• Lead reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) initiatives through analysis of equipment performance data, battery monitoring systems, predictive maintenance technologies, asset health indicators, and operational trends.
• Develop analytical frameworks, performance dashboards, engineering methodologies, and data-driven maintenance strategies to identify failures before they occur.
• Review electrical designs, one-line diagrams, equipment selections, commissioning plans, control systems, and test procedures for operational suitability and maintainability.
• Participate in design, construction, Level 1-5 commissioning, integrated systems testing, operational readiness, energization, and turnover of new facilities and expansions.
• Oversee turnover documentation, CMMS data, warranties, spare parts, training records, and closure of commissioning deficiencies.
• Approve MOPs, SOPs, EOPs, switching procedures, and change-control requests; chair or participate in technical reviews for system-impacting work.
• Serve as the senior escalation point for incidents, failures, abnormal conditions, and emergencies; perform electrical calculations, forensic engineering investigations, root-cause analysis, and corrective action planning.
• Monitor asset health, alarms, capacity, maintenance results, and reliability indicators, recommending lifecycle and resiliency improvements.
• Present engineering findings, risks, readiness assessments, and improvement initiatives directly to clients and executive stakeholders.
• Drive standardization of procedures, maintenance programs, metrics, documentation, and lessons learned across all supported sites.
• Support scope development, vendor and contractor evaluation, technical review of service contracts and capital projects, and cost-effective improvements that do not compromise safety or reliability.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS WITHIN SCOPE

Medium- and low-voltage distribution; switchgear and switchboards; UPS and battery systems; emergency generators, paralleling equipment, transfer systems, and fuel-system interfaces; automatic/static transfer switches; busway, PDUs and remote power panels; grounding and bonding; EPMS, BMS and BAS integration; and arc-flash, coordination, and short-circuit studies. Utility substations and renewable energy, microgrid, or energy-storage systems are excluded unless specifically assigned.

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering preferred; equivalent technical education, electrical trade experience, and mission critical leadership may be considered.
• 10 or more years of relevant electrical engineering, electrical operations, or critical facilities experience, including at least 7 years in data centers or comparable mission critical environments.
• Experience with hyperscale, colocation, multi-tenant, or similarly complex data centers, including commissioning, integrated systems testing, operational readiness, and turnover.
• Strong knowledge of critical power distribution, UPS and batteries, generation, transfer systems, controls, protection, and electrical safe-work practices.
• Experience developing and approving MOPs, SOPs, EOPs, switching procedures, maintenance standards, and change-control documentation.
• NFPA 70E qualification required; experience leading electrical incident response, root-cause analysis, and corrective-action programs.
• Proficiency with CMMS platforms and interpretation of EPMS, BMS, BAS, and equipment performance data.
• Ability to lead through influence across a geographically dispersed portfolio and communicate complex technical issues to executive, engineering, operations, trades, and client audiences.
• Ability to travel more than 50% and provide after-hours escalation support.

PREFERRED CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES

Professional Engineer (PE); journeyman or master electrician license; commissioning credential such as CCP, CxA, or CBCP; PMP, CFM, NETA, reliability, or comparable technical certification.

STANDARDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

Apply NEC/NFPA 70, NFPA 70E, NFPA 110, relevant IEEE and NETA standards, OSHA requirements, Uptime Institute or TIA-942 principles where applicable, client engineering standards, manufacturer requirements, and local jurisdictional requirements.

This site-based portfolio role requires work in active data centers, electrical rooms, equipment yards, construction and commissioning environments; use of required PPE; site-specific access and background screening; and availability for shutdowns, emergencies, and system-impacting work.

• Reduced electrical risk and timely closure of commissioning, audit, incident, maintenance, and client actions.
• High preventive-maintenance compliance, procedure quality, switching discipline, and change-control performance.
• Accurate capacity, asset-condition, and lifecycle forecasting; qualified and ready site personnel.
• Consistent portfolio standards and strong client confidence in ABM electrical leadership.
