Job Description

The Crisis Response Clinician’s role is to lessen trauma, divert from emergency departments or criminal justice system, and prevent unnecessary psychiatric hospitalizations. The Mobile Crisis Team is available to clients in a designated geographic area regardless of age and/or ability to pay.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Triage calls assessing clinical severity of the crisis situation and determine whether the crisis meets the minimum clinical expectations for an in-person response.

  • Assess situations utilizing telehealth tools for less severe situations.

  • When situations require an in-person response, the clinician has sixty minutes to respond at the location of the crisis event.

  • Clinical interventions have an assessment completed determining appropriate clinical interventions. This may include: de-escalation and stabilization of client’s interactions, development of safety planning, development and/or reinforcing of potential coping skills, connection to appropriate resources, and clinical assessment to determine if more intensive intervention would continue to be necessary.

  • Assist clients in maintaining their stability including: connecting them to the appropriate resources based on their mental health, substance abuse and or physical needs.

  • Coordinate and connect clients for evaluations by psychiatric and/or primary care providers.

  • Follow up with clients who contacted the after-hours crisis line to follow-up ensuring clients are connected to appropriate level of treatment.

  • Coordinate with Care Coordination team ensuring organization crisis clients are connected to ongoing teams and any additional needed services are identified and added as part of treatment plan.

  • Completion of risk assessment and safety planning for high-risk clients on Zero Suicide Pathway.

  • Completion of weekly Zero Suicide Pathway contacts assigned to the crisis therapist caseload.

  • Create a professional environment by promoting open communication and building upon the strengths of the team.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of rehabilitation methods, principles and techniques as they relate to mental health and/or substance use disorder treatment services.

  • Thorough knowledge of Zero Suicide Pathway components and how to use this treatment program.

  • Effective developing, coordinating, and evaluating services within assigned programs.

  • Competent at reading and interpreting documents such as safety rules, operating instructions and procedure manuals.

  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

  • Proficiently communicates ideas clearly and effectively verbally and in writing to produce clear and concise reports.

  • Establishes effective relationships via telehealth.

  • Follows direction and accepts supervision.

Experience and Education Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree is required in related field such as in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or related field required.

  • Master’s degree preferred.

  • State licensure or license eligible required for the location and practice including LP, PLP, LPC, PLPC, LCSW, LMHC, LMSW, PLMFT, or PLMFT.

  • Travel is required.

  • Two years’ experience working in human service-related field preferred.

Employment Requirements:

  • Successful completion of background check including criminal record, driving record, abuse/neglect and fingerprint check.

  • Completion of New Hire Orientation at the beginning of employment.

  • All training requirements including Relias at the beginning of employment and annually thereafter.

  • Current driver’s license, acceptable driving record and current auto insurance.

Physical Requirements:

ADA Consideration - Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally (exists up the 1/3 of the time) and/or a negligible amount of force frequently (exists 1/3 to 2/3 of the time) to lift, carry, push, or pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Repetitive movements of hands, fingers, and arms for typing and/or writing during work shift. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met.
