Job Duties

To maintain security of the hospital units and patient population while promoting a constant and positive interaction with patients on the unit. Ensure that unit security presence is maintained on each unit on each shift. Respond to emergency codes on the units, the team will assist in the control over the safety of patients on designed unit through efficient and compliant use of TOVA and approved de-escalation techniques. Assignment will be to one specific unit/units with occasional rotations to other units as needed. Responsible for leading the safety culture and initiatives on the unit and maintaining controlled access and patient custody both inside and outside of the facility during patient transportation.

Minimum Qualifications

Valid Virginia Driver’s License with acceptable driving record is required.

Prior experience working in a field such as law enforcement, military police, corrections or mental health related field is required.

Experience in handling difficult individuals and familiarity with therapeutic de-escalation techniques.

Additional Considerations

Experience with seclusion and state approved procedures for the utilization of facility-approved restraints to physically control, confine, and restrain individuals as directed by supervision/medical/nursing department.

Virginia’s judicial system consists of the Supreme Court of Virginia and the Court of Appeals of Virginia, the Circuit Courts, and the lower General District Courts and the Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Courts. Virginia has 13 electoral votes in presidential elections, and possesses 11 seats in the U.S. House of Representatives.
