The Louisiana State Police Crime Laboratory is seeking a Crime Laboratory Supervisor to serve as the Quality Assurance Supervisor within the Quality/Evidence Receiving Unit. This position reports to the Crime Laboratory Manager over Quality/Evidence Receiving and leads the laboratory’s Internal Audit Team.

The Quality Assurance Supervisor helps maintain the laboratory’s quality management system and supports compliance with laboratory policies and applicable accreditation requirements. Responsibilities include coordinating internal audits, monitoring corrective actions, reviewing quality assurance records, and assisting with accreditation assessments. This position works with managers, supervisors, and staff across the laboratory to identify quality concerns, address deficiencies, and improve laboratory practices.

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of forensic laboratory operations and quality assurance, with the ability to interpret requirements, evaluate records objectively, and communicate findings clearly. This position requires sound judgment, strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to guide audit team members while working effectively with personnel across forensic disciplines.

Examples of duties

A baccalaureate degree with twelve semester hours in biology or chemistry and an additional twelve semester hours in a biological science, chemistry, forensic science, molecular physics, physics, criminalistics, or pharmacology, plus four years of professional-level crime laboratory experience.

A combination of coursework is allowed.

Substitutions: Graduate training in qualifying fields will substitute for one year of the required experience on the basis of thirty semester hours for one year of experience; a combination of coursework is allowed.

Notes:

Applicants must meet the current educational requirements of the hiring agency's accrediting body for the laboratory. Criminal justice is not considered a qualifying educational field. Any college hours or degree must be from an accredited college or university.

Job Duties:

As Quality Assurance Supervisor, this position coordinates quality assurance activities across the Crime Laboratory and directs the Internal Audit Team. Duties may include:

• Assisting the Quality/Evidence Receiving Manager in maintaining the laboratory’s quality management system and monitoring compliance with ISO/IEC 17025, applicable ANAB requirements, and laboratory policies and procedures.
• Planning and coordinating internal audits, including developing schedules, assigning audit responsibilities, and providing guidance to audit team members and alternates.
• Conducting audits of laboratory activities and records to evaluate compliance with established requirements and identify areas needing corrective action or improvement.
• Reviewing audit documentation, preparing reports, and communicating findings to laboratory management and the affected Units.
• Coordinating the documentation and follow-up of nonconforming work and corrective actions, including working with appropriate personnel to identify causes and evaluate whether corrective actions are effective.
• Assisting with the development, revision, implementation, and control of quality assurance policies, procedures, forms, and related documents.
• Coordinating and conducting proficiency testing, maintaining related records, and monitoring competency documentation in collaboration with Unit managers and supervisors.
• Assisting with external assessments and accreditation activities by organizing records, coordinating requests for information, and tracking responses to assessment findings.
• Providing guidance and training to laboratory personnel on quality assurance procedures, audit expectations, and changes to applicable requirements.
• Reviewing quality assurance records and recurring findings to identify trends, recommend improvements, and provide information for management reviews.
• Promptly reporting concerns that could affect the reliability of laboratory results and recommending appropriate action in accordance with laboratory policy.

Career Progression: This position will be filled as a Crime Laboratory Supervisor assigned to Quality Assurance.

Work Schedule: Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday.

Compensation: The salary offered will be determined based on qualifications and experience.
