Hiring pay: $46,818-$61,603
Lead the Team Behind Greensboro's Best Fields

Great athletic fields don't happen by accident—they're built by skilled people who care about quality, safety, and the community. As a Crew Supervisor in our Turf Maintenance Section, you'll lead a team of 8–10 employees responsible for keeping Greensboro's athletic fields safe, beautiful, and game-ready.

If you're a hands-on leader who enjoys solving problems, developing people, and taking pride in exceptional outdoor spaces, this is an opportunity to make a lasting impact through the power of parks and recreation.

Why You'll Love This Opportunity

  • Lead from the field: You'll be a working supervisor who works alongside your team—not just manages from behind a desk.
  • Develop people: Coach, motivate, support, and help your team grow.
  • Make an impact: Your work directly affects athletes, families, coaches, and residents across Greensboro.
  • Solve real problems: From irrigation repairs to field conditions, every day brings opportunities to put your skills to work.
  • Take pride in quality: Help maintain athletic surfaces that residents can safely enjoy.
  • Join a nationally accredited department committed to creating economic impact, advancing conservation, rejuvenating health and wellness, and enhancing quality of life.

About the Role

As a Crew Supervisor, you'll oversee the daily operations of a Turf Maintenance crew while actively participating in the work. You'll coordinate schedules, monitor performance, maintain safety standards, and help ensure Greensboro's athletic fields remain among the best in the region.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supervise and lead a team of approximately 8–10 Turf Maintenance staff.
  • Develop daily and weekend work schedules.
  • Assign and monitor work activities to ensure priorities are met.
  • Mow, line, drag, paint, and otherwise maintain athletic fields.
  • Assist with irrigation repairs and maintenance.
  • Apply fertilizers and pesticides in accordance with applicable requirements and safety procedures.
  • Perform routine maintenance of turf maintenance equipment.
  • Operate assigned equipment and vehicles.
  • Conduct employee performance evaluations.
  • Coach and motivate employees while providing constructive feedback.
  • Monitor time and attendance using the Kronos system.
  • Promote safe work practices and ensure staff follow established procedures.
  • Respond to maintenance needs and solve problems in the field.
  • Provide professional and responsive customer service to residents, athletic organizations, and community partners.

As a working supervisor, you'll balance people leadership with hands-on field operations, ensuring both your team and Greensboro's athletic facilities are positioned for success.

What Makes You a Great Fit?

This opportunity could be a great fit if you:

  • Are an effective communicator who understands the importance of excellent customer service.
  • Enjoy developing and supporting employees.
  • Are motivated by solving problems and getting things done.
  • Take initiative and thrive in an active, outdoor environment.
  • Put safety first—for your team and the public.
  • Take pride in producing high-quality athletic field surfaces.
  • Enjoy leading by example.
  • Understand that great recreation experiences start with great parks and well-maintained facilities.
