Job Description

Leidos offers an excellent opportunity for a Project Engineer to join the Cargo Mission Contract (CMC) team, focusing on the Crew Provisions Hardware System. This position involves sustaining tasks for CMC hardware and supporting projects related to the development and certification of spaceflight hardware for NASA's International Space Station (ISS), Orion, Human Landing System (HLS), and Commercial Programs. The crew provisions hardware systems oversee both flight and non-flight hardware for crew members in preparation throughout their time in space. This role demands flexible and, at times, expedited support to ensure crew members are properly equipped for their missions. Alongside a team of colleagues, shared responsibilities for this role include maintaining, repairing, researching, developing, preparing, delivering, and managing inventory for both flight and non-flight hardware items. The role requires working with commercial software such as IBM Maximo, Microsoft Office Suite, and MS SharePoint, as well as CMC custom software. Support for tests and other activities may be needed outside of regular working hours.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Overall: Provide support for Crew Provisions Subsystem by handling the selection, procurement, configuration, inspection, packing, and delivery of spaceflight hardware.
  • Perform analytical integration and physical processing activities to support pressurized cargo requirements
  • Perform Maintenance and Operations (M&O) and Sustaining Engineering (SE) functions for the Crew Provisions hardware system
  • Present briefing material, data, analyses and technical input for status and to support decision making at the various NASA Program reviews, control boards, panels, forums, working groups, and Technical Interchange Meetings (TIM), including but not limited to International Space Station, Orion, Gateway, Human Landing System programs
  • Represent the Sustaining Engineering department at CMC as a subject matter expert for the Crew Provisions hardware group in both internal and external customer meetings alongside other team members
  • Interface and coordinate effectively with subcontractors, customers, and team members to ensure seamless project execution and collaboration
  • Present ongoing and completed work to internal management boards and external customers; provide timely and effective communication regarding status and needs.
  • Document and present project and routine work status in business rhythm forums on a weekly, bi-weekly, quarterly, bi-annual, and annual basis
  • Manage and support multiple requests and projects simultaneously, effectively prioritizing and executing tasks in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment with stringent deadlines.
  • Manage Requests for Support (RFS) and Manifest Requests (MR), and handle authoring and monitoring of work orders, purchase requests, job plans, non-conformance reports, internal and external customer presentations, designs, and trade studies
  • Perform pre-flight processing, assembly, delivery, and stowage of hardware
  • Monitor inventory levels, tool calibration, and part obsolescence
  • Support the early/on-time delivery of flight and non-flight Crew Provisions hardware in accordance with Manifest Request (MRs), Request for Support (RFSs)
  • Identify, investigate, resolve, and document flight and ground hardware anomalies
  • Provide technical engineering support and perform steps via work authorizing documents
  • Support hardware development projects to certify, flight-configure, and deliver new hardware for spaceflight
  • Develop basis-of-estimates (BOEs) for new work
  • Read, interpret, and develop engineering drawings to fabricate flight hardware
  • Maintain and uphold the highest standards of quality across all services and processes
  • Develop and document streamlined and efficient workflows in process documents to optimize operational efficiency and effectiveness
  • Responsible for maintaining all training and certifications required to perform in role
  • Develop new hardware, modify, or recertify existing hardware or Commercial-off-the Shelf (COTS) hardware to the applicable environment (as needed)

Basic Qualifications:

  • Requires bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Experience using MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and SharePoint
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Organized, proactive, and communicates clearly
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
  • Experience working with multi-discipline teams and customers
  • A good understanding and working knowledge of the CMC sustained tools and frequently used NASA tools (Maximo, EDCC/JEDII, EDMS, CDS, MIDAS Prime)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience certifying flight hardware
  • Experience presenting subject matter to multidiscipline groups

Must be U.S. Citizen or U.S. Permanent Resident due to length investigation for non-U.S. persons.

Pay Range:

Pay Range $50,700.00 - $91,650.00
