Do you love camp life and are ready for your first step in your camp career? Have you completed our CLP Program, it's time to join our CREW! Under the guidance of the Crew Unit Lead Stews, you'll develop the skills to become the next generation of camp leaders. From setting up campfires and all-camp games, to helping run activities and evening programs to working in food service, you'll experience all areas of camp life. Ready to join the adventure? Crew will also get the opportunity to be a co-Jr counselor with our Explorer campers (ages 7 – 9) as well. These experiences and skills you will learn in this job will help coach you into the next round of camp professionals and leaders. You will participate in staff training sessions, learn to lead activities, team building experiences, and more. No matter what your career goals may be, camp allows your hands on job experience and skills that can benefit you in any direction you career path takes you. Our summer camp staff will help support the work we do at the YMCA, by helping create a positive, nurturing environments for all our campers and staff. They will also help each camper reach their fullest potential and deepen their connections as part of their overall camp experience.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Help with setting up campfires, setting up all camp games and programs, food service, dish room, working on facility projects, keeping trails clear, and more.
  • Provide a safe environment for all campers and staff.
  • helps set up program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate and consistent with YMCA values.
  • Dedication to job, camp participants and the YMCA cause.
  • Must be able to self-regulate your emotions in a fast-paced community environment
  • Adheres to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards.
  • Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.
  • Cultivates positive relationships and maintains effective communication with parents, children and other staff.
  • Models’ relationship-building skills in all interactions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Maintain appearance of camp through cleanliness and set-up, with a "It's My Camp" attitude.
  • Actively engage children and participants in activities.
  • Attend all Scheduled staff meetings and Trainings
  • Display YMCA character values (Honesty, caring, respect, and responsibilities at all times.)
  • Supervision during swim time; staff are required to supervise both in and out of the water, Required to Swim at least two times per week.

Requirements

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Must be at least 16 years old
  • must have a go-getter attitude and willingness to help camp success
  • Must have an interest in working with youth and exemplify and support the YMCA philosophy.
  • Must complete Red Woods Online Training within 30 days of hire date
  • Experience preferred in one or more of the following areas: outdoor living, archery, boating, camping, songs/music, skits, sports, aquatics, recreational games, etc.

COMPENSATION AND AMENITIES:

  • Housing is provided for the summer
  • Camp Shirts are provided

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions
  • Ability to plan, lead and participate in a range of activities in a variety of outdoor/indoor settings. Will require outdoor work during the summer months. May be required to lift up to 50 pounds


Salary Description
$125.00 per week plus room and board
