The Creative Technology Student Assistant supports the library and its services by operating the Makerspace and maintaining the circulating Media and Technology collection. This position offers routes for specialization depending on previous experience, interest, and availability. Students are expected to work 10-16 hours per week. Federal Work Study is encouraged but not required.
Essential Functions:
Answering tickets using ServiceNow as well as maintaining a consistent presence on Microsoft Teams.
Managing the department’s technology collection, including checking out technology to users and reshelving technology.
Effectively communicating with supervisors who are often not within the space.
Assisting patrons with understanding library resources and services.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
Part-time.
16 hours per week.
Salary Range:
$18.40 per hour.
Required Education and Experience:
High school diploma or its equivalent.
High level of honesty and integrity, with excellent customer service, interpersonal, organization, communication, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently under minimal supervision and handle monetary transactions.
Strong attention to detail and the ability to prioritize and multitask in a fast-paced environment.
Creative problem-solving skills and the ability to move carts, machines, equipment, and other materials around.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Familiarity with the Library of Congress call number system.
Experience with 3D modeling systems, Canva and other graphic design software, Cricut Design Space and vector images, PowerPoint and Adobe Acrobat.
Basic troubleshooting, technology, and crafting skills.
Experience with Mac and PC computers, DVD players, and other audio-visual equipment as well as video, photo, and/or audio editing software.
Additional Eligibility Qualifications:
For Summer/Fall 2026, we are hiring only for the Media & Technology Specialization, although there will be opportunities for cross-training in the Makerspace.
The Media & Technology Specialization focuses specifically on: basic technology maintenance/troubleshooting; reporting and repairing broken items, managing the appointment schedule for AV equipment pickup and facilitating laptop and Chromebook loans, supporting the department’s DVD and streaming video collections through inventory tasks, writing copy for social media and the Media Services blog, providing in-depth AV technology consultation services including matching patrons with the best equipment for their projects, and hosting workshops in conjunction with the Makerspace staff.
The Makerspace Specialization focuses specifically on: operating the machines within the Makerspace including the sewing machine, 3D printers, Cricut vinyl cutter, and others, basic equipment/tool troubleshooting; reporting and repairing broken items, inventorying the Makerspace’s consumable materials, assisting with events, classes, popups, and other collaborative initiatives with the AU community, providing excellent customer service to patrons, including advising on projects and creative problem solving, maintaining a welcoming and safe environment, and hosting workshops in conjunction with the Media and Technology staff.
