A Day in the Life

As the Crane & Rigging Specialist you provide technical leadership, guidance, and subject matter expertise in crane and rigging activities across the European region while supporting major Turnaround and project activities throughout the company.

You contribute to the safe, efficient, and compliant execution of lifting operations by supporting planning, risk management, assurance activities, field engagement, and continuous improvement initiatives. Working closely with sites, project teams, contractors, and business stakeholders, the position helps promote consistent application of company standards, industry best practices, and Operational Excellence principles.

You apply your thorough understanding of applicable crane and rigging regulations, standards, and industry best practices, together with a commitment to workforce development, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement in safety and operational performance.

Responsibilities & Accountabilities:

• Provide crane and rigging technical support to maintenance, capital project, and Operational Excellence (OE) Audit activities across the European region.
• Support major Turnaround (TA) activities within the European region by serving as a Crane & Rigging technical specialist and coordinator.
• Duties include, but are not limited to the following:
• Contribute to the planning and preparation of Turnaround activities through crane selection, lift planning, crane positioning, logistics planning, and review of lifting operations.
• Coordinate crane and rigging activities during Turnaround execution to support safe, efficient, and reliable project delivery.
• Support the evaluation, selection, and performance management of crane and rigging service providers and contractors engaged for Turnaround activities.
• Assist in verifying workforce competency requirements, including operator and rigger qualifications, and support the delivery of crane and rigging orientation and onboarding programs for Turnaround personnel.
• Act as a Crane & Rigging Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the European region, providing technical guidance and support to sites, projects, and business stakeholders.
• Provide technical leadership and consultation for field activities and projects by:
• Supporting sites with oversight and review of crane and rigging activities when additional technical expertise is required.
• Assisting with complex lifting operations, lift planning reviews, and risk mitigation strategies.
• Supporting development and implementation of company standards, procedures, and best practices.
• Maintain awareness of relevant industry regulations, standards, and emerging best practices to help ensure company requirements remain current and effective.
• Support implementation and continuous improvement of company Crane & Rigging standards and Operational Excellence expectations across the region.
• Participate in enterprise and global technical networks, workgroups, and best-practice teams to facilitate knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.
• Support workforce development through technical coaching, mentoring, and knowledge-sharing activities.
• Identify regional and site-specific competency development opportunities and contribute to the development and delivery of training programs, workshops, and learning initiatives.
• Promote knowledge transfer and capability building within site Crane & Rigging focal point networks and contractor organizations.
• Support audit and assurance activities by reviewing crane and rigging work processes, systems, and field execution practices to identify opportunities for improvement.
• Provide visible leadership in support of site safety, Operational Excellence, and risk management initiatives.
• Participate in incident reviews and investigations involving crane and rigging activities, including identification of causal factors, lessons learned, and opportunities for improvement.
• Contribute to the development and implementation of corrective and preventative actions to strengthen crane and rigging performance across the organization.

The role can be based either in our European HQ in Rotterdam or at our Botlek site. The role will require frequent travel (approx. 30%)

You Bring This Value

• A secondary education diploma (or equivalent vocational qualification) is required.
• A minimum of 15 years of experience in crane operations, rigging, lift planning, or related heavy lifting activities
• Professional certifications as a Crane Operator, Rigger, Lift Director, or equivalent industry-recognized credentials are preferred. Candidates who do not currently hold these certifications should be willing and able to obtain applicable certifications within the first year of employment.
• To effectively perform the duties of this role, the successful candidate should possess:
• Comprehensive knowledge of crane operations and inspections, lift planning, rigging selection and inspection, allowable ground bearing pressure assessments, and super-lift operations.
• Thorough understanding of applicable crane and rigging regulations, standards, and industry best practices.
• Experience planning and coordinating crane and rigging activities for major Turnarounds, including crane selection, positioning, logistics, and movement to support safe and efficient execution.
• Proficiency with common business and operational systems, including SAP, Microsoft Office applications, and Turnaround management systems.
• Flexibility to support operating sites during major Turnaround events through temporary on-site assignments, providing technical leadership and operational support throughout critical planning and execution phases. Assignment duration will vary based on project requirements.
• Flexibility to travel domestically and internationally to support operating sites, project activities, audits, training, and stakeholder engagement, with travel requirements varying based on business needs and operational priorities.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English are required.
• Additional proficiency in German, Italian, or Dutch would be considered an advantage.

Compensation Disclosure

The compensation and reference to benefits for this role is listed on this posting in compliance with applicable law. Please note that the compensation and benefits listed below are only applicable for Netherlands (NL) payroll offers.

The anticipated salary range for this full-time position is €79,200.00 - €108,900.00. The starting compensation will be determined based on skills, experience and qualifications.
