Crane Operator / Material Handler (Machining Support) – Day Shift

Mitsubishi Power is seeking a Crane Operator / Material Handler to join our Savannah, GA facility on day shift. In this role, you will support machining operations by safely performing overhead crane moves, staging and transporting large turbine components, and ensuring material is positioned and available to maximize machining uptime. While this position is not a machinist role, the individual will support the machining team and may assist with machine set-ups and perform basic blend and deburr work as needed to support overall part flow and quality. New hires will complete an initial onboarding and qualification period to ensure a strong foundation for success.

Key Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates our core competencies: Action oriented, change champion, customer-focused, developing self & others, and ownership
  • Safely operate overhead cranes and lifting devices to move, load, and position large gas turbine components in support of machining operations
  • Rig, lift, and transport parts using appropriate slings, hooks, spreader bars, and below-the-hook equipment while following load ratings and lift plans
  • Coordinate with machinists, leads, and supervisors to stage material, manage priorities, and support continuous machine utilization
  • Receive, identify, and verify components; maintain accurate part identification and traceability during moves and staging
  • Load and unload parts from machines, fixtures, and staging areas; assist with setup support activities such as part positioning and protecting critical surfaces
  • Perform blend and deburr work as needed using hand tools and portable grinders, following workmanship standards and safety requirements
  • Assist with machine set-ups as required, including learning to accurately read dial and digital indicators and other specialty measuring tools to support machinist-level setup requirements.
  • Perform basic visual checks for handling damage; promptly communicate concerns to Quality, Engineering, or supervision
  • Verify end-of-process paperwork for completeness and accuracy, ensuring required inspections and sign-offs are documented and the job is ready to release to the next step

Requirements

  • 2–5+ years of industrial material handling experience, preferably in a heavy manufacturing or machining environment
  • Experience operating overhead cranes and performing lifts with rigging and below-the-hook lifting devices (or ability to become qualified)
  • Knowledge of safe lifting/rigging practices, load ratings, and material protection techniques for large components
  • Ability to read and follow work instructions, lift plans, and basic drawings to support correct part identification, orientation, and staging
  • Comfortable working around large machinery and heavy loads; able to perform physical tasks such as walking/standing, bending, and handling tools for deburr/blend work
