Position Title: Crane/Boilermaker

Job Summary:

The Crane/Boilermaker is responsible for performing skilled boilermaker work while safely assisting with crane operations to support maintenance, turnaround, construction, and shutdown activities. This position involves the installation, repair, modification, and removal of boilers, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, tanks, structural components, and associated equipment while working closely with crane operators and rigging crews to execute critical lifts.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Boilermaker Responsibilities

  • Install, remove, repair, and replace boilers, pressure vessels, tanks, heat exchangers, and related equipment.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, isometrics, and work packages.
  • Perform equipment alignment, fit-up, and assembly of components.
  • Remove and install valves, piping components, exchangers, and vessel internals.
  • Use oxy-fuel cutting torches, grinders, air tools, and welding equipment as required.
  • Perform bolt-up, flange maintenance, gasket replacement, and torqueing operations.
  • Assist with hydrostatic testing and leak checks.
  • Perform confined space work and elevated work from scaffolding or aerial lifts.
  • Execute shutdown, turnaround, and maintenance activities according to project schedules.

Crane and Rigging Responsibilities

  • Assist with crane setup and lift preparation activities.
  • Inspect rigging equipment including slings, shackles, spreader bars, and lifting devices.
  • Perform signal person duties during crane operations when qualified.
  • Safely rig, lift, move, position, and secure heavy equipment and materials.
  • Maintain awareness of load capacities, lift plans, and critical lift requirements.
  • Coordinate with crane operators, supervisors, and craft personnel to ensure safe lifting operations.
  • Assist in positioning vessels, exchangers, piping spools, structural steel, and heavy equipment.

Safety Requirements

  • Follow all company, client, OSHA, and site-specific safety procedures.
  • Participate in Job Safety Analysis (JSA) and pre-job safety meetings.
  • Properly use required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Maintain current credentials required by the project, including site safety training.
  • Stop work when unsafe conditions exist and report hazards immediately.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 3+ years of industrial boilermaker experience.
  • Experience supporting crane and rigging operations in industrial environments.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
  • Knowledge of rigging practices and hand signals.
  • Ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, and in varying weather conditions.
  • Must be capable of lifting up to 50 pounds and performing physically demanding tasks.
  • Strong commitment to safety and quality workmanship.

Preferred Qualifications

  • NCCER Boilermaker Certification.
  • NCCER Rigger or Signal Person Certification.
  • TWIC Card.
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 Certification.
  • Experience in refinery, petrochemical, plant, or industrial construction environments.
  • Experience operating JLG, man lifts, and other aerial access equipment.

Work Environment

  • Industrial construction, maintenance, refinery, petrochemical, and turnaround settings.
  • Extended work hours, overtime, weekends, and shutdown schedules may be required.
  • Exposure to outdoor weather conditions, elevated work areas, and heavy equipment operations.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Qualifications Required for this Position:

Education: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. NCCER certified and State Electrical License. Plant Maintenance experience preferred.

Certifications/ Licenses: NCCER, TDLR Electrical License, and DL

Experience: 3-5 years of Journeyman level experience.
