Research Project: VEARLYDEM. Voting in Early Democracies: The Case of the Spanish Second Republic
Funded by Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities.
Plan Estatal de Investigación Científica, Técnica y de Innovación 2021-2023
The VEARLYDEM project aims to understand the voting patterns during early democratic periods, with the Spanish Second Republic (1931-1939) serving as a case study. One of the goals of the project is to create a quantitative dataset detailing election results at the municipality level during the Spanish Second Republic, the first of its type, and a dataset on legislative speeches.
The research team involves partners from different universities, but the PI is located in the UPF Ciutadella Campus (Mercè Rodoreda 24 Building), where the RA will work—online work is also possible upon previous agreement with the PI.
Tasks:
The RA will develop several tasks, mainly quantitative, to help the team to build the different datasets that are needed for the project.
Main tasks: The main tasks for the junior researchers will be:
To digitise the information already collected by the research team and input it into a dataset.
To clean, categorise and prepare the dataset for the analysis.
To contact provincial or local archives to collect the information that is missing—in some circumstances, this may include travelling in-person to the archives.
To support the research team with additional clerical or admin duties.
