About the Role:

We are seeking a CPI (Customer Program Implementation) Electrical Applications Engineer with a diverse set of skills who would enjoy planning, development and releasing embedded software for vehicle steering systems. Expanded responsibilities of this role would include conducting DFMEAs & contributing to defect resolution to ensure robust design performance, coordinating cross-functional activities to maintain requirements traceability, executing system-level software releases and achieving program milestones gate exits. The ideal candidate would enjoy working within a team-oriented environment and enjoy tackling complex software challenges applied to real-world systems.

Key Responsibilities

As a CPI Product Application Engineer (Software), you will be responsible to:

  • Be an integral contributor to a team of highly motivated engineers committed to the development of ECU SW for steering systems.
  • Plan, (develop, test) and track Feature design statuses for SW of electrical controllers.
  • Conduct failure mode analysis and design experiments (e.g. DFMEAs and DoEs) on planned designs to ensure robustness.
  • Support requirement traceability initiatives to ensure customer (e.g. DVP&Rs) and safety requirement verifications are completed.
  • Coordinate system level releases of embedded merged software (ie including calibrations) for projects.
  • Own and track problem solving activities (ie defect resolution) regarding complex hardware / software design challenges.
  • Act as a SW interface to a Customer Service Center team (that interacts directly with an OEM interface).
  • Collaborate with Nexteer’s manufacturing facilities to build and test prototype and production samples.
  • Interface with project management and cross-functional teams to achieve gate review deliverables for design, quality, reliability, and cost.
  • Occasionally interact directly with OEM interfaces to support the Customer Service Center teams.

Required Qualifications

  • Educational background in the principles and processes used to design and develop electrical systems (electrical hardware and software)
  • Familiarity with embedded controllers (ie how a controller can be used to operate physical system with sensors, actuators & a motor)
  • Proficient with Microsoft Operating Systems and Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
  • Experience performing engineering calculations using computational tools and spreadsheets (e.g., MATLAB, Microsoft Excel)
  • Excellent communication skills and a desire to work pleasantly with colleagues
  • Flexibility in earlier working hours to effectively support globally distributed stakeholders.
  • Good organization and documentation abilities
  • Able to lift/physically move parts weighing up to 35 pounds

Preferred Qualifications

  • Understanding of the engineering development V‑model and its application to system development
  • Understanding of electronic systems, computer hardware/software and automotive chassis systems (e.g. steering, braking, suspension)
  • Familiarity with project management processes of planning, coordination, and execution
  • Familiarity with managing requirement and traceability systems (e.g. IBM DNG, Jama Connect)
  • Experience with model-based design (e.g. MATLAB Simulink) for algorithm development and vector-based design testing
  • Ability to read and interpret software programming languages (e.g. C, C#, Visual Basic)
  • Experience with automotive communication protocols and network-based integration (e.g. CAN-FD, LIN, FlexRay)
  • Experience with integration, measurement, and network test/debug SW Tools (e.g. Vector CANalyzer/CANape, Intrepid Vehicle Spy)
  • Experience using formal problem-solving techniques (Shainin Red X, DFSS, 3L5Y) to drive robust root-cause resolution

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Computer Engineering or Computer Science required
