The Jefferson County Circuit Court in Madras, Oregon, is hiring a Judicial Assistant/Clerk (Court Operations Specialist).
In this role, you will provide administrative support to our judges. You will answer and screen phone calls. You will perform data entry, file judgements and orders, and prepare correspondence, legal documents, and opinions. You will monitor and track pending cases, perform routine research, and maintain multiple calendars. You will prepare jury instructions, process travel expenses, route files and documents, and process requests for information. In doing your work, you will interact with judges, management, court staff, attorneys, litigants, justice agencies, and the public.
In the courtroom, you will record proceedings and prepare and maintain written logs. You will set up video and phone conferences and will help attorneys and litigants with procedures and scheduling. You will swear in witnesses, mark exhibits, and complete a variety of forms. You will maintain the security and professionalism of the courtroom. You will also prepare the courtroom and jury room, distribute documents, administer the oath to potential jurors, and monitor jurors’ security during deliberations.
Additionally, you will process court cases that have been referred to arbitration. You will select arbitrators, send notices to parties, update the case management system, and monitor timelines. You will scan hard copies of records and verify the quality of the scanned images.
You will spend part of your time answering phones and helping the public. You will also provide backup coverage for the other judicial support positions at the Jefferson County Circuit Court and the Crook County Circuit Court in Prineville.
Assigned tasks may be changed to accommodate workload and organizational needs.

The qualified candidate must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
Four (4) years of responsible administrative experience in a moderately complex office or business setting demonstrating the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed for the position.
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to four (4) years of experience that typically supports the knowledge, skills, and abilities for the position.
