Position Purpose:

All KHI employees are expected to perform their respective tasks and duties in such a way that supports KHI’s vision to be among the kindest, highest quality health systems in the country.

Key Responsibilities

1. Makes deliveries on behalf of KHI as directed using a company-provided vehicle.
2. Transports interoffice mail, business documents, supplies, medical equipment, and organizational materials between KRMC/KHI facilities and external locations.
3. Picks up and delivers materials that may contain Protected Health Information (PHI) and maintains confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and organizational policies.
4. Transports laboratory specimens in accordance with applicable safety, infection prevention, and chain-of-custody requirements in a prompt and timely manner.
5. Transports sterile instruments and supplies while maintaining package integrity and preventing contamination.
6. Transports contaminated instruments and other regulated materials using approved handling and transport procedures.
7. Maintains accurate delivery logs, manifests, and chain-of-custody documentation as required.
8. Verifies receipt and delivery of sensitive or regulated items.
9. Conducts routine vehicle inspections and reports maintenance or safety concerns.
10. Uses safe driving practices and complies with all traffic laws and organizational vehicle policies.
11. Performs other duties as assigned to support overall effectiveness of department and organization

Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent - must provide diploma or official transcripts upon hire

License: Current, valid US driver’s license (must be 21 years of age or older).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Maintains professional and confidential interactions with internal departments, medical offices, vendors, community partners, and external healthcare facilities.
• Responds to urgent delivery requests and changing priorities.
• Communicates regularly with dispatch for directions and updates.
• Familiar with HIPAA Privacy and Security requirements.

Special Position Requirements

Bloodborne diseases exposure category: Category II. Position may involve exposure to blood, body fluids, laboratory specimens, contaminated medical instruments, regulated medical waste, and other potentially infectious materials. Employee must comply with all bloodborne pathogen, infection prevention, and personal protective equipment requirements.

Work Requirements

• Operating a vehicle for extended periods of time.
• Frequent lifting up to 35 pounds; pushing, climbing, and crouching positions.
• Good hand/eye dexterity for safely handling tools and objects being delivered, loaded and unloaded.
• Vision requirements: close vision, distance vision, color vision.
