Job Description

Keep Healthcare Moving

As a Courier Dispatcher, you’ll play an important role in keeping daily operations running smoothly across Meritus Health. You’ll coordinate courier routes, monitor schedules, respond to service requests, and communicate with courier staff and customers to help ensure laboratory specimens, medical supplies, mail, cash bags, and other secured items are moved safely, securely, and on time.

This is a fast-paced coordination role where strong communication, organization, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize changing needs make a real difference.

What You'll Do

  • Coordinate daily courier dispatch activities, assign routes, and adjust schedules to support timely pickups and deliveries.
  • Receive, prioritize, and dispatch scheduled and unscheduled pickup and delivery requests.
  • Monitor route progress and communicate delays, service interruptions, or changes promptly.
  • Provide courteous and responsive service to internal and external customers while representing Meritus Health professionally.
  • Coordinate special handling requirements for STAT, temperature-sensitive, confidential, secured, and chain-of-custody items.
  • Communicate special instructions and service needs clearly to courier staff.
  • Monitor vehicle availability, route coverage, staffing levels, and operational needs.
  • Track shift schedules, call-offs, delays, and route coverage concerns.
  • Assist with route coverage planning, priority calls, weather-related changes, and other operational needs.
  • Maintain accurate dispatch logs, route records, tracking information, and required documentation.
  • Document and communicate vehicle maintenance concerns, safety issues, accidents, and route disruptions.
  • Support inventory of dispatch materials, keys, badges, phones, radios, scanners, and other assigned resources.

What We're Looking For

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple routes, schedules, customer requests, written instructions, and department procedures with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to communicate clearly by phone, radio, email, and dispatch systems.
  • Ability to appropriately coordinate confidential, secured, time-sensitive, and regulated materials according to department procedures.

Preferred Experience

  • One year of experience in dispatch, logistics, transportation coordination, courier services, customer service, or a call-center environment.
  • Experience in a healthcare, laboratory, hospital, transportation, or dispatch setting.
  • Familiarity with HIPAA, infection control, and chain-of-custody processes.
  • Experience with dispatch software, route tracking tools, phones, radios, scanners, or other logistics communication systems.

If Driving a Meritus Vehicle

A valid driver's license and driving record meeting applicable requirements are required for use of Meritus vehicles. Team members must meet Meritus vehicle insurance requirements, including being at least 21 years of age.
