Major Responsibilities:

  • To provide courteous and efficient courier services and other support to Toronto Public Health (TPH)employees and partners.
  • Loads/unloads items from vehicle such as mail, medications, vaccines, equipment, audiovisual items, office supplies, etc.
  • Provides set-up of equipment such as audiovisual items for meetings, displays.
  • Operates and maintains vehicle such as washes, refuels, fills, and drains water tanks; and performs circle check inspection of vehicle daily, secures items on vehicle prior to transport, and coordinates maintenance.
  • Transports staff and mobile dental clinic vehicles. Delivers internal and external mail, boxes, equipment, and performs special courier requests to various locations throughout the City of Toronto, including: TPH offices and clinics, TPH partners, government agencies, medical facilities, office buildings, shelters, community centres, laboratories, and schools
  • Purchases supplies, prepares requisitions and maintains supply room; distributes supplies and performs inventory control.
  • Maintains office equipment or coordinates maintenance.
  • Performs admin duties such as reception, data input, photocopying/faxing, filing, sorts/delivers mail, records information on pick-ups and deliveries, fuel costs, and mileage.

Key Qualifications:

Your application must describe your qualifications as they relate to:

  1. Experience as a driver/courier.
  2. Experience in utilizing a variety of Microsoft Office software programs, e.g., Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  3. Possession of a valid Ontario Driver's License Class "G" and a clean driving record with the ability to qualify for a City Equipment Operations license.

You must also have:

  • Thorough knowledge of the Ontario Highway Traffic Act and the City traffic laws and familiarity with the City's Occupational Health & Safety policies.
  • Ability to use software packages relevant to the position.
  • Thorough knowledge of the location of major streets.
  • Strong customer service focus.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions with the ability to work independently.
  • Sound judgement with the ability to deal with conflict.
  • Ability to effectively cope with change and shift gears comfortably with work assignments.
  • Ability to lift and deliver materials weighing up to 50lbs.
