TITLE: Visual Impairment Teacher
REPORTS TO: Principal
JOB GOAL: To provide direct instruction, technical support and skills; this includes provide appropriate tools, materials and curricular support as well as help in functional areas of daily living and vocational areas.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Valid West Virginia Teaching Certificate, Vision Impairment PK-Adult
• Working Knowledge of Braille and knowledge of electronic devices including Braille and other specialized note takers, comfort and still in teaching functional daily living experiences and familiarity with low vision tools preferred.
• Ability to work well with general education teachers and service personnel.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:
• Foster a classroom climate conducive to learning
• Develop instructional plans and organize class time to provide a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and working time
• Instruct pupils in subject areas as specified in state law, curricula, and guidelines established by the local board of education and administrative regulations
• Assist in the implementation of the Multi-Tiered Systems of Support framework to ensure the success for all students.
• Provide individual and small group instruction whenever appropriate
• Adapt curriculum to the needs of pupils with varying intellectual and special abilities
• Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly and productive environment
• Supervise pupils in out of classroom activities during the assigned working day, as required
• Evaluate each pupil's performance and growth in knowledge and understanding; monitor progress toward leaning outcomes; prepare progress
• Ability to travel between schools in the county to provide outlined services
• Communicate with parents and school counselors on pupil progress; promote positive pupil-teacher-parent relationships
• Serve as resource person on interdepartmental levels to assist general education staff
• Adhere to all federal, state, and local educational policies
• Serve as a braille support specialist as needed.
• Perform all other duties as assigned, according to need, by the school principal or central office administration
