Examples of duties

This position focuses on assessing requests for services, supporting families, and helping ensure the safety of children in Lycoming County. The work involves gathering information, evaluating needs, and coordinating resources to support child welfare goals. As a County Caseworker 1, you will perform the following duties:

  • Referral Assessment: Receive and evaluate requests for services to determine appropriate steps for families
  • Family Evaluation: Conduct short term assessments through interviews and home visits to identify needs
  • Safety Assurance: Monitor children through required contacts to ensure safety, stability and wellbeing
  • Case Documentation: Maintain case records and enter information into required systems to support service planning
  • Resource Coordination: Help families access services and provide transportation when appropriate
  • Client Engagement: Work with clients to build strengths and connect them with needed supports

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment.
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years of experience as a County Social Services Aide 3 and two years of college level course work which includes 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences; or
  • A bachelor's degree which includes or is supplemented by successful completion of 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which includes 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences and one year of experience as a County Social Services Aide 3 or in a similar position performing paraprofessional case management functions.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within two months of graduating with a qualifying degree/credits.
