Job Description

This is a senior country leadership role within EMEA SSBI, accountable for taking an enterprise-wide approach to growing and governing State Street’s Luxembourg franchise. The Country Head will lead the local country agenda, strengthen regulatory and market relationships, and create the conditions for sustainable growth by bringing together business lines, corporate functions and country leadership behind a common “One State Street” strategy.

Purpose, key responsibilities and scope of the role

  • Manage the Luxembourg branch of the International Bank and ensure the country operates in line with legal entity, corporate governance, regulatory and internal control expectations.

  • Lead and develop a Luxembourg Country Leadership Team responsible for creating and executing an enterprise-wide country growth strategy.

  • Drive and execute the Investment Services / Client Coverage strategy in Luxembourg, ensuring local priorities are aligned with regional and global business objectives.

  • Maintain and grow strong local relationships with clients, prospects, management companies, the investment funds community and other relevant market stakeholders.

  • Develop and refine the strategic plan for Luxembourg coverage, including priority clients, strategic prospects, account plans and sales targets.

  • Conduct regular deal and pipeline reviews and support annual reviews of strategic markets and account plans.

  • Act as local owner for the services delivered by State Street in Luxembourg, working with functional leadership, global client executives and relationship managers to ensure high-quality client service and effective handling of significant client-related projects, including remediation, new business acquisition and onboarding.

  • Drive key talent decisions and career planning beyond individual business silos, supporting strong local leadership succession and inclusive talent development.

  • Improve in-country employee engagement and strengthen a location culture of “One State Street”, including initiatives that enhance the employee value proposition, Inclusion and Diversity, and collaboration across groups.

  • Drive a country-wide culture of risk, control and governance excellence, ensuring best practices are shared and observed across relevant business areas.

  • Build strong regulatory relationships and own the local regulatory engagement agenda, including oversight of remediation plans agreed with local regulators.

  • Represent State Street Luxembourg in the business community, industry bodies and relevant forums, acting as a senior local spokesperson and enhancing the firm’s profile and reputation.

Managerial and leadership responsibilities

  • Lead and chair the Luxembourg Country Leadership Team and relevant risk, governance and legal entity forums as required.

  • Align local business line and corporate function leaders around the Luxembourg country strategy

  • Ensure Luxembourg is managed and governed in line with company law, European and local regulatory standards and State Street legal entity governance standards.

  • Represent Luxembourg on regional and global committees or working groups as required.

  • Role-model leadership behaviours consistent with State Street enterprise standards and culture traits, including client focus, risk excellence, collaboration, accountability and inclusive leadership.

Skills and experience

  • Proven senior leadership track record, including the ability to bring senior leaders together to execute against a common goal.

  • Fit and proper approval, or ability to obtain fit and proper approval, from the Luxembourg regulator CSSF.

  • Demonstrated experience managing complex regulatory relationships, ideally with an established and positive track record with Luxembourg and European regulators.

  • Proven track record in business development, revenue growth, expense discipline and P&L management.

  • Strong client relationship and stakeholder management experience, including engagement with institutional clients, prospects, management companies and market participants.

  • In-depth knowledge of the investment funds and/or investment management industry, together with multi-business knowledge and understanding of State Street products, services and business strategies.

  • Strong market profile, executive presence and credibility as a senior external representative of the firm.

  • Demonstrated ability to put enterprise and State Street-wide priorities ahead of individual business requirements.

  • Proven track record in building deep, partner-based and collaborative relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English; additional Luxembourg market language capability would be advantageous where relevant to the role.
