About the Role

As Country Head, you will be part of the Pacific Leadership Team, which includes other Country Heads, Pacific enablers and Pacific functional heads. You will work with both country and matrix teams to set targets, maintain good governance and compliance, deliver revenue outcomes, identify regional cost saving opportunities and deliver sound capital returns, with a motto that ANZ comes first, Region second and Country third. Where there are matters that could have regional impacts, you are expected to work with the Regional functional heads.

The Country Head is expected to role model ANZ’s values and represent ANZ’s interests in Kiribati at all times. This end-to-end remit is expected to be reflected in a very robust well-managed business and control environment with a strong ANZ culture, effective business execution and high collaboration across all areas in-country, by:

  • Ensuring the country stays on strategy, works within risk appetite and delivers on its commitments;
  • Developing a culture that encourages speak up;
  • Closely engaging all Product and Enablement leaders in executing actions aligned to ANZ and Pacific strategies; and
  • Acting as a custodian of the bank’s reputation and the balance sheet.

As ANZ’s representative in Kiribati, serve as the primary ambassador for the bank, building and maintaining strong relationships with regulators, government bodies, NGOs, customers, business associations, and community stakeholders. Act as a trusted communication channel, effectively conveying ANZ’s strategies, policies, and performance updates locally, while providing timely insights on in-country risks, issues, and growth opportunities back to ANZ.

What will your day look like?

  • Sustainably grow commercial market share in a value and return accretive manner.
  • Oversee end-to-end customer experience in partnership with business, product, and enablement leaders.
  • Strengthen ANZ’s reputation as a responsible corporate citizen in-country.
  • Manage key relationships with government, regulators, private and public sector stakeholders, and community entities.
  • Develop and execute country and business strategies with strong governance and controls alongside matrix leaders.
  • Identify and share growth and improvement opportunities across the region.
  • Ensure effective management of all operational requirements and business obligations.
  • Maintain compliance with group, regional, regulatory, credit, operational, and local legal requirements.
  • Lead and develop the in-country management team, serving as a role model and mentor.
  • Attract, retain, and develop local talent while supporting localisation and cross-ANZ talent connectivity.

  • Demonstrated senior leadership with humility, strong values, and role model behaviours.
  • Proven ability to lead, motivate, and develop high-performing teams and culture.
  • Strong credit, risk, and business management expertise.
  • Track record of running a well-managed business with sound conduct and governance.
  • Ability to build and manage complex senior stakeholder relationships across diverse cultures and sectors.
  • Collaborative leader who drives outcomes through effective partnership across functions.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with experience engaging executives, boards, regulators, government officials, and media.
  • Strong external executive network and international experience with high cultural agility.
  • Strong organisational, political, and self-awareness, with the agility to adapt to changing market conditions.
  • Ability to grow and sustain the Kiribati business through economic cycles while improving returns.
  • Proven focus on enhancing productivity and performance while maintaining positive stakeholder engagement.
