Experienced Counter Assistant (18+)

Role: Experienced Counter Assistant

Store: Bob and Berts Cookstown

Hours: Part-time, with regular early-morning and weekend shifts. Please apply only if you can reliably work the advertised shift pattern.

Eligibility: This position is open to applicants aged 18 or over because the advertised shift pattern and adult-only duties cannot be assigned to a young worker. Previous relevant counter experience is essential.

We’re recruiting a reliable Counter Assistant who can settle in quickly, communicate clearly and help deliver fast, accurate and friendly service. You’ll take orders, serve food and drinks, process payments and keep the counter clean, organised and running smoothly.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Customer Service: Give every customer a warm welcome, take food and drink orders accurately, and handle questions with a friendly, can-do attitude.
• Order Management: Serve food and drinks, package takeaways, and help keep the queue moving during busy periods.
• Cashier Duties: Operate the till/POS system confidently, handle payments, and provide accurate change and receipts.
• Cleanliness & Safety: Keep the counter, serving areas, and tables clean, tidy, and safe so everything looks its best.
• Stock Management: Top up stock, restock self-serve areas, and follow food rotation practices to keep things fresh.
• Teamwork: Work closely with the kitchen and front of house team to deliver smooth, speedy service when things get lively.

What We Need From You

• Previous paid experience in a busy café, bakery, deli, takeaway, retail counter or similar customer-facing role is essential.
• Friendly, polite, and professional demeanour.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and remain calm under pressure.
• Basic numeracy skills for cash handling and POS usage.
• Reliable availability for early starts, weekends and the agreed rota.
• Confidence using a till or POS system, handling cash and processing card payments accurately.
• Ability to stand for extended periods.
• Right to work in the UK
