This is a hands-on counter-service position in a busy Italian market and café. Guests order at the counter, and hospitality is delivered through speed, accuracy, teamwork, and genuine guest interaction.

Success in this role comes from staying organized, communicating well with your teammates, and delivering friendly, efficient service during busy meal periods.

Tips are pooled and consistent, providing reliable supplemental income while encouraging a collaborative team environment where everyone works together to deliver a great guest experience.

Porta Via Italian Foods is a neighborhood Italian market, café, deli, and bakery serving freshly made-from-scratch food in Pasadena.

Guests visit throughout the day for coffee, pastries, sandwiches, prepared foods, baked goods, and market items, creating a steady, fast-paced environment with plenty of guest interaction.

The operation combines retail market service with high-volume café and deli counter service, creating an energetic workplace focused on teamwork, consistency, hospitality, and quality ingredients.

Responsibilities

  • Greet guests and take orders at the counter
  • Accurately handle POS transactions
  • Assist with deli service, light food preparation, and attractive counter presentation
  • Support retail stocking and merchandising
  • Maintain cleanliness and food safety standards
  • Help prepare the café for service and keep it organized throughout your shift
  • Work efficiently in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
  • Support teammates during busy service periods

Qualifications

  • At least one year of restaurant, café, deli, or food service experience
  • Strong communication and guest service skills
  • Comfortable multitasking during busy service periods
  • Reliable with a strong work ethic
  • Professional appearance
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 35 pounds
  • Food safety certification preferred or willingness to obtain within 30 days
