The Counter Parts Technician helps ensure that the right part, material, or supply is available to the right customer at the right time. Location and Schedule

• In this position, you can expect to work 100% on site at the Maintenance Center. Free employee parking is provided.
• The scheduled workweek will consist of four 10‑hour shifts Wednesday through Saturday from 4:30pm to 2:30am.
• This role supports mandatory on-call snow overtime.
• The candidate may be scheduled to work nights, weekends, holidays, and emergencies. Shift differentials are offered for swing and overnight hours to recognize and reward employees' unique schedules.
• Schedules are subject to change and based on the operational needs of the organization.

Who We Are and What You’ll Do

The Counter Parts Technician provides front-line parts and inventory support to DEN Maintenance, Fleet, Facilities, and other airport departments. This position is responsible for delivering excellent customer service while accurately issuing, receiving, researching, locating, and managing parts and supplies. The Counter Parts Technician serves as an important connection between customers, stockroom operations, purchasing, receiving, and inventory management. The successful candidate must be organized, dependable, detail-oriented, safety-conscious, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where priorities can change quickly.

Customer Service & Parts Counter

• Provide professional, courteous, and timely service to Maintenance, Fleet, Facilities, and other DEN customers.
• Assist customers at the parts counter with identifying and locating parts, materials, tools, supplies, PPE, and other inventory items.
• Research part numbers, descriptions, manufacturers, specifications, and substitutions when necessary.
• Ask appropriate questions to understand the customer’s need and ensure the correct item is provided.
• Communicate professionally with customers, supervisors, coworkers, vendors, and other airport departments.
• Respond to urgent and emergency parts requests while maintaining accuracy and appropriate inventory controls.
• Maintain a clean, organized, professional, and customer-ready counter area.

Inventory Management

• Issue and disburse inventory accurately using the City’s inventory management systems.
• Complete daily disbursements and ensure transactions are entered correctly and timely.
• Receive returned parts and materials and ensure inventory records are properly updated.
• Perform cycle counts and assist with maintaining inventory accuracy.
• Investigate inventory discrepancies and communicate issues to the appropriate supervisor.
• Verify quantities, part numbers, descriptions, units of measure, and storage locations.
• Assist with stock replenishment and identification of items that require purchasing.
• Identify damaged, obsolete, excess, slow-moving, or potentially surplus inventory.
• Maintain proper organization and labeling of stockroom locations.
• Follow established inventory procedures and internal controls.

Receiving & Purchasing Support

• Assist Receiving with processing incoming materials and verifying shipments.
• Compare received materials against purchase orders, packing slips, and system information.
• Identify discrepancies such as shortages, overages, incorrect parts, or damaged materials.
• Assist Purchasing with researching parts, obtaining information, and resolving customer or vendor questions.
• Communicate receiving or purchasing issues that may impact Maintenance operations.
• Support the timely processing of priority and emergency parts requirements.

Parts Research & Technical Support

• Research unfamiliar or difficult-to-identify parts using catalogs, manufacturer information, historical records, system information, and other available resources.
• Assist customers in identifying appropriate replacement or equivalent parts.
• Develop knowledge of Fleet, Maintenance, Facilities, Hi-Tech, Radio, Life Safety, and other DEN-specific parts and equipment.
• Learn and apply proper parts nomenclature and inventory terminology.
• Use available technology and systems to research inventory, part history, purchasing information, and availability.

Daily Operations

• Open, close, and maintain the parts counter according to established procedures.
• Monitor customer traffic and prioritize requests based on operational urgency.
• Coordinate with other shifts to ensure continuity of service.
• Communicate outstanding issues, special requests, emergency needs, and inventory concerns during shift transitions.
• Complete assigned daily checklists, reports, and inventory activities.
• Maintain accurate documentation and records.
• Follow all DEN, City and County of Denver, Supply Services, safety, security, and operational procedures.
• Assist with snow operations, emergency response, and other airport operational needs when assigned.
• Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

Our ideal candidate has some or all the following experience, skills, and characteristics:

• Experience in inventory, warehouse, parts, purchasing, receiving, customer service, or related operational environments.
• Knowledge of automotive, fleet, aviation, industrial, mechanical, electrical, maintenance, or facilities-related parts and materials, with prior parts counter or stockroom experience preferred.
• Strong customer service, interpersonal, and communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships across departments and stakeholders.
• Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills, including the ability to research part information, maintain accuracy, and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team while adapting to changing operational needs and deadlines.
• Experience with inventory management, enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, Maximo or similar platforms, and barcode scanning or mobile inventory technology.
• Knowledge of inventory control principles, including cycle counting, warehouse organization, material tracking, and inventory best practices.
• Ability to safely perform the physical requirements of the position, including lifting, moving, and handling materials (0-50 and up to 100 pounds) in a warehouse or stockroom environment.

Required Minimum Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate.
• Three (3) years of parts, maintenance or stockroom experience receiving, stocking, issuing, and maintain inventory records of parts, equipment, supplies, or materials, to include purchasing experience.
• Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements.
• Requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application. Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment.

FBI Background Check

FBI criminal background checks are required for all positions at Denver International Airport (DEN). Employees are also required to report any felony convictions and/or moving violations to maintain this clearance and be eligible for continued employment. By position, a pre-employment physical/drug test may be required.

Shift Work/Emergency Duties

Denver International Airport is a 24/7/365 team operation. If staffing challenges arise, weather conditions warrant, or an emergency crisis occurs, all DEN employees will be required to work extended hours and/or alternative shifts (including nights, weekends, and holidays).
