Performs the more routine substance use screening and assessment services for York County Psychological and Substance Use Services Program. Provides assessment services in Williamsburg, York, and Gloucester Counties. Provides support services by facilitating or co-facilitating online or in-person drug education classes and Anger Management classes to juveniles in the jurisdictions of Williamsburg, James City County, York County, Poquoson, Gloucester and Mathews. Position is housed in Williamsburg, but some travel may be required to other locations.
Performs substance use screening and assessments by administering a variety of screening and assessment instruments.
Conducts psycho-social interviews with youth and parents; administers urine drug screens as need indicates.
Facilitates/co-facilitates online or in-person substance use education/prevention classes and anger management classes.
Write and deliver various written reports on clients’ progress or completion of programs to referring agencies.
Drafts correspondence, assessment results and case closure summaries; create and maintain documentation of client files.
Keep accurate statistical data regarding service hours provided to clients.
Attends multi-agency staffing, treatment team meetings and supervision as scheduled.
A bachelor’s degree in human services or related field and 2 years of experience working with socially or emotionally maladjusted youth.
Experience with counseling techniques/practices, and crisis intervention preferred.
Possession of a valid driver's license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia. Requires an acceptable background check.
Must be certified in CPR, Basic First Aid.
Knowledge of child and adolescent psychology.
General knowledge of assigned screening and assessment tools, interviewing techniques, and procedures.
Knowledge of family and group dynamics with the substances using population.
Ability to interact effectively with diverse populations, diffuse problematic situations, sound judgment, and demonstrate resourcefulness.
Strong organizational, time management, and documentation skills are essential and the ability to plan and carry out work effectively and in a timely manner.
Ability to remain calm and work effectively under stressful or emotionally charged situations.
Must be physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment including, copiers, calculators, pagers, etc. Must be physically able to operate a motor vehicle.
