Job Posting Title:

Counselor - HighDesigns and implements a school guidance curriculum; provides individual student planning, responsive services, and systems support. Works as a team member with school staff, parents and the community to create a caring, supportive climate and atmosphere whereby students can achieve academic success. Understanding of unique and diverse challenges, both personally and developmentally that impact academic achievement of high school students is essential. Develops and promotes good community relations among various community and school clientele.

This role will support post secondary readiness.

Position Specific Information (if Applicable):

Responsibilities:


--- Participate in professional development activities to improve knowledge and skills.


--- Work collaboratively within the school environment and with appropriate stakeholders to advance the goals of the Counseling Program.


--- Refer and connect students to appropriate resources to enhance learning and development.


--- Support students in the successful transition from each grade level into the next phase. Prepare students for post-secondary options.


--- Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.


--- Encourage two-way communication to enhance and promote the school counseling program.


--- Counsel student s to encourage and support academic achievement. Assist students regarding educational issues such as course and program selection, class scheduling, truancy, study habits and college/career planning.


--- Use available technology resources to enhance the school counseling practice and program.


--- Provide information to students and parents regarding academic progress, counseling programs, community resources, post-secondary opportunities, etc.


--- Align the counseling program to school goals (School Improvement Plan).


--- Customize counseling services to meet individual student and school needs.


--- Assist in coordinating district, state, and/or post-secondary testing programs.


--- Use assessment data to measure student learning and academic growth and analyze results in planning counseling decisions.


--- Counsel students to help them understand and overcome personal, social or behavioral problems affecting their educational situation. Demonstrate age-appropriate counseling practices that meet academic, career, and personal/social needs.

Position Salary Schedule Eligibility:

Hard to Hire

Licensed position salaries are set based on one of three salary schedules; General, Hard to Hire, and Specialist/Extremely Hard to Hire. DCSD will award up to 7 years of previous licensed teaching experience at the time of hire. Click HERE to view the current DCSD Licensed Salary Schedules*.

  • *All salary amounts listed on the schedules are based on a full-time (1.0) FTE. If applicable, part-time salaries will be prorated according to the assigned FTE.
