Job Description

Organization's Summary Statement:

The Upward Bound Counselor is to provide personal, academic, and career development counseling to low-income potential first-generation college students by equipping participants with the necessary skills to successfully matriculate to post-secondary institutions of their choosing.

EXAMPLES OF WORK:

Provides client assessments.
Coordinates client referrals as necessary and appropriate.
Assists with administrative functions.
Other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands:

Licenses/ Certifications: LGPC may also be considered with at least 2000 hours of post-graduate supervised clinical work and the ability to obtain a LCSW-C or LCPC license within one year.

Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Master’s degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Two (2) years of clinical or counseling experience in an education or community setting.

Other: LGPC may also be considered with at least 2000 hours of post-graduate supervised clinical work and the ability to obtain a LCSW-C or LCPC license within one year.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

Knowledge of individual, family, and group counseling techniques for students in grades 9–12.

Knowledge of crisis intervention, disaster response, and trauma management principles and practices.

Knowledge of assessment techniques used to diagnose psychological disorders.

Knowledge of program development and educational workshops that inform students and parents about mental health, school, family, and relationship issues.

Knowledge of program evaluation methods and treatment outcome assessment, including student academic and personal/social progress.

Knowledge of group psychodynamics and clinical supervision practices.

Knowledge of test construction, administration, and validation methods.

Knowledge of research methodologies used in scientific investigations.

Skill in consulting with organizations, both internal and external to the campus.

Skill in training and mentoring student workers and paraprofessionals.

Skill in providing clinical supervision and facilitating case study discussions.

Skill in oral and written communication.

Skill in the use of Microsoft Office products.

Ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures, regulations, and laws.
