This part-time role provides confidential, solution-focused counselling support to young people through phone and live chat.
You will help youth navigate concerns including mental health, anxiety, depression, relationships, school challenges, substance use, and crisis situations.
The role combines empathetic communication with strong risk assessment, safety planning, and sound professional judgment.
You will work within a person-centred, strengths-based clinical model while adapting your approach to each young person’s needs.

Accountabilities:

  • Provide confidential, single-session, solution-focused counselling to young people through both phone and live chat, moving between service modalities during shifts.
  • Conduct appropriate risk assessments and develop safety plans relating to youth safety, including suicide and self-injury, child welfare, substance use, and threats toward others.
  • Exercise sound independent judgment and recognize situations requiring escalation to management or appropriate external services.
  • Maintain professional boundaries and demonstrate composure and professionalism when supporting individuals experiencing intense emotions or challenging situations.
  • Apply a person-centred, strengths-based, empowering, and non-judgmental counselling approach that respects client autonomy.
  • Communicate with empathy, curiosity, professionalism, and cultural sensitivity while adapting to changing client needs.
  • Integrate individual counselling style and personality with the established clinical model and service standards.
  • Participate actively in individual and group supervision, clinical consultations, coaching, training, team meetings, and other scheduled activities.
  • Collaborate respectfully with colleagues and contribute positively to a supportive, inclusive, and high-energy workplace culture.
  • Apply a commitment to diversity, inclusion, equity, accessibility, and respectful service delivery in all interactions.
  • Requirements:

    • Bachelor's or master's degree, or diploma, in Social Work, Counselling, Psychology, Sexology, Child and Youth Care, Social Services, or a related field; equivalent experience in crisis work and counselling may also be considered.
    • 1–2 years of experience in crisis intervention and/or counselling, with practicum or placement experience considered relevant.
    • Strong practical skills in risk assessment and safety planning, particularly in situations involving youth at risk.
    • Knowledge of relevant national and provincial legislation concerning youth at risk and appropriate referral processes, including emergency services and child protection authorities.
    • Excellent spoken and written English communication skills; French proficiency is required for bilingual positions.
    • Strong written communication and typing skills to effectively provide counselling through live chat.
    • Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, manage challenging situations, and determine when escalation or referral is appropriate.
    • Strong professional boundaries, emotional resilience, empathy, curiosity, and a non-judgmental approach.
    • Commitment to client autonomy, strengths-based practice, diversity, inclusion, equity, and accessibility.
    • Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment while maintaining quality and professionalism.
    • Stable, dedicated high-speed internet connection with minimum speeds of 25 Mbps download and 10 Mbps upload to the work device.
    • Ability to maintain a closed, private workspace suitable for confidential counselling sessions.
    • Benefits:

      • Employment: Permanent part-time position.
      • Remote work: Open to candidates residing anywhere in Canada except Ontario and Quebec
