Job Description

Through this apprenticeship, youth will continue to amplify the voices of youth and young adults through the continuation of a youth-led, citywide Advisory Council called Santana's Youth Empowerment Council (SYEC). The mission of SYEC is to create a safe and supportive space where youth can come together to engage in critical thinking. We strive to amplify the voices of young people across Boston, collaborating with Councilor Henry A. Santana to identify solutions that directly address the challenges they face in their communities and educational journeys.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

- Organize and facilitate the creation of a citywide youth council that brings together young people from diverse backgrounds. - Schedule and lead regular meetings to collect input on youth policies and issues impacting the community. - Prepare reports and recommendations based on council discussions to support Councilor Santana's advocacy efforts. - Plan and execute an annual youth event that celebrates and empowers Boston's youth. - Collaborate with local organizations, schools, and community leaders to ensure the event is inclusive and impactful. - Develop promotional materials and outreach strategies to maximize participation. - Engage with Councilor Santana during budget discussions to advocate for youth-centered initiatives and funding. - Gather feedback from the youth council to prioritize budget allocations that directly benefit the young people of Boston.

The Ideal Candidate for this Job

- Strong understanding of youth issues and community dynamics in Boston. - Excellent communication and organizational skills. - Experience in youth advocacy, event planning, or community organizing is a plus. - Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups of individuals. - Commitment to empowering youth voices in local government.
