Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) – PRN

Gateway Post Acute

Pay Range: $42.00–$45.00 per hour, based on experience

Gateway Post Acute is seeking a compassionate and motivated PRN Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant to join our rehabilitation team. This is an excellent opportunity to provide meaningful, hands-on therapy while enjoying the flexibility of a PRN schedule.

Under the supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist, the COTA provides individualized treatment to help residents improve their ability to complete daily activities safely and independently.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide skilled occupational therapy treatments according to the supervising Occupational Therapist’s plan of care.
• Help residents improve their ability to complete activities of daily living, including dressing, grooming, bathing, toileting, feeding, and mobility.
• Monitor residents’ responses to treatment and communicate progress, concerns, or changes to the supervising Occupational Therapist.
• Complete accurate, timely, and compliant clinical documentation.
• Communicate with physicians, nurses, rehabilitation staff, residents, families, and other members of the interdisciplinary team.
• Participate in resident care conferences, rehabilitation meetings, and discharge planning as needed.
• Educate residents, families, and caregivers regarding treatment goals, home exercise programs, safety techniques, fall prevention, and maintenance programs.
• Recommend and assist with obtaining adaptive equipment, splints, assistive devices, elevated toilet seats, grab bars, and other durable medical equipment.
• Assist nursing staff with training and supporting Restorative Nursing Assistants.
• Provide employee in-services and training programs as requested.
• Follow infection prevention, safety, and equipment-maintenance procedures.
• Report damaged or malfunctioning equipment promptly.
• Contribute to quality assurance, performance improvement, and rehabilitation program development.
• Maintain resident privacy and the confidentiality of all resident and company information.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Associate degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program required.
• Current California Occupational Therapy Assistant license in good standing required.
• Must maintain all continuing education and licensure requirements.
• Current CPR/BLS certification required when applicable.
• Skilled nursing, post-acute care, rehabilitation, long-term-care, or geriatric experience preferred.
• New graduates are welcome to apply.
• Experience with Net Health, PointClickCare, or other electronic documentation systems preferred.
• Strong clinical, documentation, communication, and time-management skills.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with the supervising Occupational Therapist and interdisciplinary team.

• Flexibility to provide coverage based on facility needs.

Physical Requirements

This position requires frequent standing, walking, reaching, pushing, pulling, and assisting residents with mobility and transfers. The employee may occasionally climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl while providing care or operating equipment.

The role may involve exerting more than 100 pounds of force occasionally, more than 50 pounds frequently, or more than 20 pounds regularly when safely assisting residents or moving equipment. Reasonable accommodations may be made for qualified individuals with disabilities.
