Summary

The Occupational Therapy Assistant assists in developing, improving or restoring independence to any person who has an injury, illness, disability or psychological dysfunction.

Job Description

Job Duties

  • Under the supervision of an Occupational Therapist, provides occupational services reassessing the client's status on each visit, and ensuring quality of care as evidenced in the clinical record.
  • Coordinates client care with other clinical team members ensuring optimal client care and communications evidenced in the clinical record.
  • Completes all required paperwork following policies and procedures to ensure that documentation reflects care provided and the outcomes achieved, as evidenced in the clinical record.
  • Maintains and enhances personal knowledge as well as promoting professional standards in occupational therapy.
  • Attends all required safety training programs and can describe his or her responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, and specific job-related hazards.
  • Follows exposure control plans/blood borne and airborne pathogens.
  • Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible and courteous environment.
  • Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a department team inter and intra departmentally to facilitate the department's ability to meet its goals and objectives.
  • Communicates to Occupational Therapist any change in patient status or need to change/update goals.
  • Follows Mercy's safety guidelines, carries out job-specific safety duties and responsibilities, and promptly reports any unsafe conditions, situations, incidents and injuries.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Good interpersonal relationships.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient use of computer – ability to type.

Professional Experience

  • 1+ years of experience preferred.

Education

  • Education sufficient to obtain licensure in the state of Iowa.

Licensure, Certification, Registration

  • Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant licensure from state of Iowa, required.
  • Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS), in accordance with the American Heart Association required.
  • Iowa Dependent Adult Abuse & Iowa Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter training required. Employee must submit certification of completed training prior to start or transfer date.

Physical Requirements

Very Heavy: Exert 100 lbs. of force occasionally and/or 50lbs. of force frequently.
