Job Description
The Cost Estimating Supervisor is responsible for the analysis and quoting of the company’s new business opportunities to support the creation of the process and facility costs. Responsibilities include leading the engineering cost estimating resources, quoting all new business and engineering changes, customer technical presentations, and supporting internal and external cost reviews. The Cost Estimating Supervisor works closely with the sales department to support achieving strategic objectives.

Responsibilities
- Strong ability to mentor/develop/coach direct reports, drive standardization and accountability for performance.
- Creates an environment that encourages active participation of all team members.
- Directly supervises corporate engineers (Cost Estimating)
- Estimating activities are planned and executed on time and in line with corporate goals.
- Assist and support Sales business development strategy and assessment of opportunities for strategic fit.
- Development of corporate, customer, and supplier relationships to build a network to assist with anticipating needs, gathering data, resolving concerns, and providing technical support.
- Aligning with sales to understand RFQ priorities and ensure alignment with the estimating team.
- Ongoing development and updates to the engineering cost model, ensuring cost is accurate based on data from prior launches.

Engineering Cost Estimating Department Responsibilities
- Review Customer Quote Documentation (SOW, RASI, BOM and CAD) to identify all project requirements and develop a comprehensive list of questions and additional information required to quote the project.
- Prepare and present technical presentations for customer reviews, to include detailed cycle time analysis, proposed equipment design, facility layout with material flow impacts, key error proofing concepts, project timing and program assumptions.
- Prepare project line up information for awarded business, with the assistance of business development, to communicate the quoted project cost and timing requirements, along with all program assumptions to the launch team.
- Main Manufacturing Engineer interface with the customer during the new business award process.
- Collect cost data from internal department representatives, sub-contractors, and vendors as required.
- Prepare and maintain historical cost data.
- Assist with quoting large engineering changes on current business as requested.
- Assist in evaluation of new suppliers, products and technologies to help maintain a competitive edge in the industry.
- Determine required takt time and process efficiencies to accurately establish required process cycle times.
- Determine the required assembly sequence, process steps and assembly methods based on the customer provided information.
- Accurately quote the required square footage requirements, all capital investments (equipment, tooling, and facility upgrades), and required direct / indirect labor.
- Function as the primary Manufacturing Engineer interface with the customer during the new business award process.
- Assist the Engineering group with updating corporate design standards / specifications in all Mechanical and Tooling areas.
- Assist Engineering in the identification and assessment of new equipment OEMS, suppliers and integrators.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Management, Engineering or a related field.
- A minimum of three - five (3-5) years of experience as a Manufacturing or Process Engineer or a related Engineering discipline.
- Prior supervision experience
- Must have experience in an automotive assembly environment
- Must have experience leading process and equipment design
- Cost estimating experience is required, including below items
- Direct and Indirect labor
- Start-up cost
- Capital
- Tooling
- Strong mechanical aptitude
- Strong overall understanding of industrial control systems, safety systems, and error-proofing technologies to develop requirements and associated cost
- CAD skillset requirements
- 3D CAD viewing to be able to explode and analyze parts to develop process
- 2D AutoCAD to develop line layouts and plant layouts
- Excellent presentation skills
- Strong communication skills (both oral and written)
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
