Wood has an opportunity for a Cost Engineer in Malaysia to support bid development and project execution by delivering accurate, timely and compliant cost management services.
The role will work closely with Project Management, Engineering, Planning, Procurement and Construction teams to ensure project costs are effectively planned, monitored and reported in line with contractual requirements, client expectations and Wood policies, procedures and systems.
The Cost Engineer may act as the focal point for defined project scopes and will contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and the mentoring and development of cost personnel where required.

The Cost Engineer is responsible for supporting effective cost control and reporting across the full project lifecycle, including bid and execution phases.
You will:
- Review, develop and maintain the Project Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) and Cost Breakdown Structure (CBS), ensuring alignment with approved estimates, scope of work and contractual requirements.
- Support the development of project and bid cost budgets in accordance with the Basis of Estimate, including assumptions, narratives, man‑hour estimates and review of client documentation.
- Monitor, control and report actual, committed and forecast project costs, including cash flow, cost trends and contingency drawdown, using approved cost systems and tools.
- Liaise with Planning and Project Controls disciplines to ensure accurate cost phasing, forecasting and integration with project schedules, including the assessment of change requests and manpower forecasts.
- Coordinate with engineering, procurement, construction, finance and time‑capture functions to ensure accurate and timely capture and allocation of labour, material, subcontract and procurement costs in accordance with the approved WBS.
- Manage cost codes, work approvals, budget set‑up and cost documentation, ensuring compliance with Wood procedures, audit requirements and contract reporting calendars.
- Contribute to best practice development, compliance reviews and continuous improvement initiatives, and support the coaching and mentoring of cost and project controls personnel as required.
The successful candidate will demonstrate strong cost engineering capability supported by relevant project experience. This will include:
- Bachelor’s degree (ISCED Level 6) in a relevant technical or business discipline, or equivalent experience gained through industry or vocational training
- Typically a minimum of 5 years’ relevant cost engineering experience, preferably within EPC or consultancy environments
- Strong knowledge of cost management systems, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow and cost reporting methodologies
- Sound understanding of WBS and CBS structures, change management processes and earned value principles
- Ability to prepare accurate cost estimates, forecasts and reports in line with client and contractual requirements
- Experience working in multidisciplinary project teams across engineering, procurement and construction
- Strong communication, analytical and organisational skills, with the ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
