The Cost Controller will support project execution by maintaining accurate financial control, cost tracking, forecasting, and reporting across active project scopes. This role works closely with Project Managers and project teams to ensure budgets, costs, and forecasts are effectively monitored and controlled.
Key Responsibilities
- Support Project Managers with cost tracking, reporting, and overall project financial performance
- Develop, monitor, and maintain project budgets, forecasts, and cost controls
- Track actuals against budget and provide variance analysis and reporting
- Assist in managing project progress reporting, including cost, schedule, and performance indicators
- Monitor and control project scope, costs, changes, and resource allocations
- Prepare cost reports, dashboards, and project control deliverables for stakeholders
- Support change management processes, including review and tracking of change requests and baseline adjustments
- Identify cost risks, savings opportunities, and support mitigation strategies
- Assist with procurement and invoice tracking to ensure accurate cost capture and processing
- Coordinate with project teams to ensure accurate resource loading and cost forecasting
Requirements
- 3–10+ years of experience in project controls, cost control, or project accounting (industrial, mining, construction, or oil & gas preferred)
- Strong understanding of project budgeting, forecasting, and cost tracking principles
- Experience supporting large-scale capital or maintenance projects
- Proficiency with cost control systems and project management tools (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Prism, EcoSys, JDE, or similar)
- Experience with earned value management (EVM) and variance analysis
- Ability to prepare and interpret cost reports, forecasts, and performance dashboards
- Strong skills in Excel (pivot tables, formulas, data analysis, reporting tools)
- Knowledge of change management and project change control processes
- Familiarity with procurement, invoicing, and contract support functions
- Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and financial accuracy
- Ability to work effectively with Project Managers, planners, engineers, and procurement teams
- Strong communication skills for reporting risks, variances, and recommendations
- Post-secondary education in Business, Accounting, Finance, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
