Job Description

With a strong foundation in minerals processing, Sedgman continues to expand into new commodities, markets, and regions, delivering practical and innovative engineering solutions.

We’re looking for a motivated, entry-level Cost Controller to join our Brisbane team - ideal if you’re ready to step into a hands-on role, gain practical experience, and build your career in project finance.

This is a unique opportunity to join a global business, where you’ll gain a clear understanding of how everything connects and grow into managing your own contracts over time.

What you’ll be doing

  • Assisting with preparing financial reconciliations, ensuring cost data is accurate, complete, and aligned to reporting timelines.
  • Supporting cost control across multiple operational contracts, tracking budgets versus actuals and identifying variances.
  • Working closely with the Cost Control Lead and Management Accountant to deliver reporting that supports operational and financial decision making.
  • Analysing and interpreting data in Excel, transforming large data sets into clear and actionable insights for stakeholders.
  • Building an understanding of contract performance, learning how costs are tracked, managed, and recovered across project lifecycles.
  • Maintaining structured financial processes, ensuring consistency and accuracy across systems and reporting.
  • Taking ownership of smaller scopes over time, working directly with internal and external stakeholders across a variety of projects.

What we’re looking for:

  • You’re early in your career, degree-qualified in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, Economics or a similar discipline, with a genuine interest in building a career in cost control.
  • You’re naturally curious, detail-focused, and motivated to understand how projects operate beyond the numbers.
  • Comfortable working with data and picking up new systems, you’re someone who asks questions, takes initiative, and wants to learn.

Why this role?

  • Be part of a supportive, approachable team that works closely together, shares knowledge, and encourages growth.
  • Gain real insight into how projects operate commercially, with experience beyond a typical junior finance position.
  • Enjoy a flexible hybrid setup and a steady pipeline of work, this role offers both stability and long-term opportunity.
